Once again The Rose Tattoo that far-flung, near mytholgical group of Hoboes, Tramps, Layabouts & Ne'er Do Wells heads for the back of beyond to plan the lightning fast repartee and lukewarm guitar licks for their upcoming shows in Northern California. The result of all this last minute scheming can be seen Friday,June 5 at the Oddffellows Hall(appropriately enough) in Nevada City, June 7 at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, and June 8th at Don Quixote's in Felton(near Santa Cruz).

This years edition of the Tatto consists of;

Kuddie, The Feather River Kid,
Mark Ross(Smokestack)Americas' Most Famous Unknown Folksinger,
JB Freeman(The Iceman Cometh),
Bob & Diana Suckiel(Boomer Bob & Mama Pipes),
John Weiss(Seattles' answer to Buddha),
Bodie & Jackson Wagner,
and last but now least
Brendan Phillips(Utahs' son)

CAVEAT AUDITOR, hope to see you folks from 'Catland there.

Mark Ross

Gee, that concert is TONIGHT in Nevada City, California. Mark, I thought you told me on the phone it was tomorrow night, when I'm supposed to be cooking dinner for the homeless. I'll do my best to make it.

The link for the Nevada City concert is here (click).

The Rose Tattoo

Nevada City Oddfellows Hall

Friday, June 5th at 8pm

The Rose Tattoo, a near-mythological fraternity of tramps, hobos and ne'er do wells who hold in common their experience of travel by freight train, an ability to carry a tune and a tattoo of a rose somewhere on their persons.

This band of nomads comes to Nevada City to honor their late grand master with the Songs and humor of U. Utah Phillips in a tribute to the Golden Voice of the Great Southwest. The festivities take place Friday June 5th 8pm at the Nevada City Oddfellows Hall, 212 Spring Street, downtown Nevada City. Highly recommended for families, especially young adults who think they know everything.

You'll find tickets for this rare concert on a vanishing way of life available at Harmony Books in Nevada City and BriarPatch Market, Grass Valley. Tickets are $15; a portion of the proceeds will benefit Hospitality House in Grass Valley. For more information call Kuddie 530-575-2200

This year's Roses include Kuddie, Mark Ross, John Weise, Bob and Diana Sukiel, J. B. Freeman, Bodie & Jackson Wagner and Brendan Phillips, son of Utah.

Utah's family of the road. They'll be in town -- our town -- to meet Utah's family at home. The Rose Tattoo at the Nevada City Oddfellows Hall, Friday, June 5th, with media support from KVMR

It was a very enjoyable concert at the Oddfellowe Hall in Nevada City this evening. I've been there only for contra dances, but now I know it makes a very good venue for concerts. It's an old building, a second-floor hall behind the National Hotel. It was a little smokey where we arrived, and many in the audience were coughing. I suspect some of the cast may have been enjoying "recreational inhalants"....

There were 9 or 10 members of the Rose Tattoo present, half for the first set and half for the second. Each person took turns performing, a mixture of Utah Phillips and a few other songs. Mudcatter Mark Ross played harmonica, guitar, and banjo - and he played a mean dobro on "Starlight on the Rails" and several other songs.

The only song the whole group sang together was the closing song, "Hallelujah I'm a Bum."

Thanks for coming, Mark.

Joe ... thanks a lot for posting the information as well as the concert review. One of our bestest friends is a member of the Rose tattoo ... and I'm not surprised the stage area was a bit smoggy! CHEERS, Bob(deckman)Nelson
