But do you remember the one that went
Water is wonderful
water's superb.
Water's too powerful
To conquer or curb.
The best thing about water is when you can chuck it.
Over yourself,
out of a bucket.
Also Tiswas

I think that the Bucket of Water Song was largely written by Neil Innes (from Bonzo Dog Do Da Band etc etc) and John Gorman (formerly of folk-comedy band Scaffold). It definitely resembles some of their late 1960s stuff!

There was lots of folk-comedy stuff on Tiswas - Jasper Carrott was a presenter in its early days, and you would see Mike Harding, Grumbleweeds, Fred Wedlock, Barron Knights, Roaring Jelly and people like that.

There's a bit of background information with that YouTube video that Nutty linked to:
The Bucket of Water song from TISWAS. A popular UK Saturday morning television program of the late 1970s and early 1980s. TISWAS is an acronym of Today Is Saturday Watch And Smile.
I hear the last line of the chorus a bit differently on the video:

This is the song we lovers of water sing,
We can't go wrong we're happy as a king,
We beat the drum as we march along,
We crash the cymbal and bang the gong,
We sing our song, The Bucket of Water Song

Otherwise, I'd agree with the lyrics Sugarfoot Jack posted.

This is what they want!

THE BUCKET OF WATER SONG

This is the song we lovers of water sing,
We can't go wrong we're happy as a King,
We beat the drum as we march along,
We crash the cymbal and bang the gong,
This is the song The Bucket of Water Song

Chorus

Stand on one leg and point up at the sun,
Rattle your nose we're sure it must be fun,
But no matter who or what you are,
We know something you'll enjoy by far,
to sing out this song, The Bucket of Water Song!

Chorus

Though life is hard we do the best we can,
Against evil we guard to help our fellow man,
We put the baddies in their place,
we fight the foes of the human race,
But whatever the case we take it in the face!

To the water pumps, march and get fresh water!

Chorus

The melody of the "Bucket of Water Song" sounds very much like "Hey Diddly Dee, an actor's life for me" from Disney's "Pinnochio". I haven't time to transcribe it at the moment. Contact me privately if you still want it and I'll see what I can do.

Cheers,

Weasel

I Think some of you are getting a bit muddled up with the song I'm on about, look at the You Tube link Nutty sent, that's the song I'm on about, not there's a hole in my bucket which a totally different song and as Joe says and I did in opening this thread has any got the words.

Cheers

Muppett

But just so we stay on the right track, let's post "Hole in the Bucket" stuff in the threads Bob linked to. I'll move a few that were posted after this message, so it doesn't appear that the "Hole" people haven't been reading before they post (well, Keith did read, but that was before the clarification). Can somebody transcribe the "Bucket of Water Song"?

That's usually known as "There's a Hole in My Bucket" and it's a bit more of an oldie than you may have realized. It became popular in the mid-1950s, and seems to go back to a German original. See

http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=18999

And it may well be older than that.

Various German versions appear in the following thread:

http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=75327

That's just a start on the history of this century-old (or more) answer-back song.

Nay Keith that's the wrong song, it's the one Dave has included that I'm after, ta any way though.

Thanks Dave, it's starting to come into place, the words look familiar now, any more .................

Anyone fancy performing it at Cleckheaton (with buckets if weather is good)

I think that the chorus went:-
"This is the song we lovers of water sing,
We can't go wrong we're happy as a King,
We sing the song as we march along,
Play the drum and we bang the gong,
This is the song The Bucket of Water Song"

probably wrong in places but it might spark off someone even sadder than me to remember all the words.:-)

There's a hole in my bucket?

fix it
with what shall I fix it
with straw
if the straw is too long
then cut it
with what shall I cut it
With a knife
if the knife is too blunt
Then sharpen it
with what shall
with a stone
if the stone is too dry
then wet it
with what shall i
with water
with what shall I fetch it
in a bucket
ther's a hole in my bucket.
