Subject: RE: Knockholt payment Fiasco. From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Jun 09 - 02:36 PM I believe there are some issues of principle involved... |
Subject: RE: Knockholt payment Fiasco. From: GUEST,TDL Date: 04 Jun 09 - 04:36 PM We see no problem. On Wednesday and Thusday there is only Folk Mobbers at the site, whilst Friday and Saturday is "Come All Ye". In the past they came all ye for the freebies, 'tis only right to make what is after all, a very small contribution towards expenses. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt payment Fiasco. From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Jun 09 - 05:30 PM I do not wish fully and publicly to ventilate what are primarily matters for members of Folkmob - of which I think I still have a membership card somewhere. However surely the freebies have now diminished (thanks to some small drunks). My understanding of parts of the matter is that the initial folk-camp was started and run by Folkmob for Folkmob, as part of the club, and intentionally funded out of club operating surplusses (which were and remain considerable). That has been part of the Folkmob operating ethos for I believe well over a decade. It was a convention. A single committee meeting, with no advance agenda, at which many longstanding committee members were not present, but newer non-camping members were, expressed itself (I hear) to reverse this convention. A classic piece of ambush politicking. I do not care much where the ball comes to rest - but there should have been and there should again be a level playing field. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt payment Fiasco. From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 05 Jun 09 - 11:09 AM Indeed Richard , After all not everyone can make Folkmob committee meetings. I went to one committee meeting a few weeks back and brought up the issue about the water pressure at Knockholt and the trickle of water that comes out the hose in regards to us poor tent folk who seemly wait for ages to fill a vessel. The question was put and a answer was given ""There is absolutely nothing we can do about the water pressure at Knockholt' was the answer in reply from the committee. Has far has i am concerned thats fine thats all there is too it I wont proceed the matter further. I have been told and if anyone moans at knockholt this year Re Water I have the answer to give them because I know. And knowing about increases in charges is important ,people should know . I do not think that opening this thread will make me to popular at Folkmob But the fact is when the person comes up and says Can I have your Camping fees and one states Yes this the £s I owe you for a 4 days pitch and the person says "Oh its gone up this year to £s is Cheeky , even if its only a couple of quid. which Im willing to pay anyway. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt payment Fiasco. From: Richard Bridge Date: 05 Jun 09 - 12:03 PM There are three answers to the water pressure: - 1. Fill large containers on early arrival, or in the small hours, when the mains pressure is at max. 2. Put large container under hose and go and do something else for an hour or so. 3. Surreptitiously disconnect hose at gate and fill your container there then reconnect hose... I too have no objection to paying more, but I think subverting the nature of a longstanding Folkmob custom by means of political tricks is a bit naughty. That's the sort of thing that results in clubs splitting, usually to the detriment of all. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt payment Fiasco. From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 05 Jun 09 - 12:44 PM Re last two lines of above thread Saints preserve I hope that dont happen. A message on another Thread from the Folkmob Treasurer has been placed Prior to this thread opening to which I was unaware. I think it is the Knockholt 2009 Thread. Kind regards Pierre. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt payment Fiasco. From: Richard Bridge Date: 08 Jun 09 - 09:22 AM I believe that some longstanding Folkmob committee members may be intending to discuss the issue, so perhaps they are keeping their powder dry... |
Subject: RE: Knockholt payment Fiasco. From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 08 Jun 09 - 09:33 AM Hmm lets hope they keep the powder dry Richard. Wet powder can cause a Flash in the Pan and a consequent "Miss fire". Or such was the case with the Brown Bess Musket. I think if the Folkmob Committee form Squares They may Win their Waterloo. |
