Subject: Obit Son of Growler From: growler Date: 04 Jun 09 - 05:29 PM I don't think that Martin was known to many Mudcatters. He was murdered on 3rd April and will be cremated on Monday 8th June at the Garden of England Crematorium, Bobbing, Sittingbourne. Any tibutes, please, to Emmaus, a homeless persons charity in Medway. Anyone wishing to come on Monday, will be welcome. The wake at The Good Intent following Simon |
Subject: RE: Obit Son of Growler From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Jun 09 - 05:36 PM Surely, although I have agreed and do agree that it was murder, neither the inquest nor a murder trial has yet agreed with me? |

Subject: RE: Obit: Son of Growler From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Jun 09 - 11:46 PM I suspect that if Growler has wanted to post the story, he would have done so - unless it has (correctly) have been put to him that he should refrain from public comment in any amount of detail until after the murder trial of the bus driver. If you do searches for "Medway" "Bus" "Martin" and "death" you will probably get many of the parts of the story from the Medway local papers. Indeed I was rather surprised (bearing in mind the Contempt of Court Act) at the extent to which apparent eye-witness accounts, the truth of which will no doubt be central to the murder trial, have been reported and published. Amos, you will probably appreciate that the UK law on publication pending trial is very different from that in the USA. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Son of Growler From: VirginiaTam Date: 05 Jun 09 - 02:30 AM Simon / Growler has had my thoughts and hugs since I found out not too long after it happened. I wanted to post something a while back, but felt it should be done by Simon if and when he was ready. I am useless at words of comfort, Simon. Just know I am still thinking about you. Hope to see you at Linda's BBQ or Knockholt when I can give a proper hug again. Tam |

Subject: RE: Obit: Son of Growler From: Dave the Gnome Date: 05 Jun 09 - 05:30 AM As a father of 5 I can envisage the grief you must feel but just cannot imagine the depth of the trauma. My very sincere condolances. No help to you I'm afraid but if you look up 'Arriva bus death Salford' you will find details of an incident local to me that happened last May. We have 3 bus companies operating in the area and as soon as I heard that one had been involved in a fatal collision I knew it was going to be an Arriva driver. Arriva drivers appear to have received the worst training of any operatives I have ever seen and the number of times I have seen them driving erraticaly is ubelievable! Regards Dave |

Subject: RE: Obit: Son of Growler From: melodeonboy Date: 05 Jun 09 - 06:10 AM Growler and his family have suffered greatly over the past two months. During this time he's not only been a steadfast support to the rest of his family, but has carried on running the Good Intent folk nights - in addition to the Sweeps singarounds - and has continued to bring pleasure to others by both his music and his presence despite his pain. Growler, I salute you. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Son of Growler From: growler Date: 05 Jun 09 - 03:29 PM Thanks to everyone, I have been on the folk scene in Kent for some twelve years and in that time have met some lovely people. I am proud to be in that fraternity. I posted this for information rather than to gather sympathy and as Richard pointed out, should not have used the phrase that I did. This was not my fault, as Kevin gave me a bottle of whiskey that he had won in a raffle. Good health to you all Thanks Simon |

Subject: RE: Obit: Son of Growler - 8 June- Wake at Good Intent From: Anne Lister Date: 05 Jun 09 - 04:22 PM So sorry to read about this, Simon - sending our heartfelt condolences. My sister was knocked down by a bus a couple of years ago, when she was legally parked in a layby in order to help my disabled mother out of the car. The bus knocked her over and carried off the car door. Luckily my sister only suffered heavy bruising (heavy enough to have left a permanent lump, however) but she has been coping with post-traumatic shock ever since. The most amazing part of the incident, however, was that the bus driver tried to claim that he wasn't driving the bus at the time - this despite there being lots of witnesses including a police officer who knew the driver well. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Son of Growler - 8 June- Wake at Good Intent From: Richard Bridge Date: 06 Jun 09 - 04:29 AM Bus drivers suffer work penalties if they cause accidents - so usually lie. My late mother was scared out of driving by a bus driver. He pulled out of a bus-stop, ripped up the side of her car, and drove off. Then he told his employers who told the police that she had driven into him and driven off. Fortunately the damage to the side of her car showed that the only way she could have driven into him was if she was driving sideways and backwards at the time. But she never drove again. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Son of Growler - 8 June- Wake at Good Intent From: Anne Lister Date: 06 Jun 09 - 06:19 AM I don't want to let this thread drift as it's far more important than my sister's story - but in her case, Richard, it was impossible to understand why the driver lied, as he was interviewed at the scene of the accident at the time and he was clearly rostered on as the driver at the depot as well. Again, Simon, my sincerest condolences on your loss. |
