By popular request we have yet another return visit for a house concert from John, on July 11th 2009.

John is always a favourite when he makes it up to the wilds of the Northeast and an evening spent in his company is a real treat.

The evening will start with a pot luck supper, followed by John's performance and then a song circle.

We had a wonderful evening. John filled requests with our favorites but chose all "new to us" material for most of his concert. The Kipling songs were amazing, Boots Boots Boots - wow,

He brought me a very touching gift - a butt bank that farts. Charming. Joann tried to slip the hideous boobie lady cheese plate in but was caught. If I find it in the bushes outside I will drive to Gloucester to return it. Linn and Tom added a tasteful wine cork to my collection - no comment.Actually, an amazing amount of crap exchanged hands last night.

Found two nuns this morning - SIGH.

I awoke to "By and by I'm going to see the king" and Joe Cocker.
John is a treasure. If any of you haven't had a chance to see him perform, check his website. Everything from music hall to doo wop to child ballads to sea songs to...he is an endless font of musical information and a bit outrageous besides. A good evening.

I had such a GREAT time last night. After depositing Jacqui at her house, drove through the rain and got home at 3 AM. I just love these house concerts at Mary's (and Deborah's) and wish I was around a bit more often for them.

It's so good to see everyone and Kendall's looking great. I love the beard, Capn'!

Thanks to Mary and Jacqui for keeping these going. I wish I could come up next Sat for the lobstah and to meet Chance and Suzette, but alas, I have to get ready for a month away.

I don't know when everybody else crashed. People were talking about stuff and I started nodding off and went to bed. THEN I heard music. With the help of ear plugs I slept quite well until the sun woke me up around 6. Got out of bed when I heard noises downstairs and suspected there might be coffee.

It's always a wonderful concert when John's there. I'm glad he Kippled. I love the Boots, Boots, Boots song and hope to hear it with chords & stuff. Willie's Lady, the Old Figurehead Carver, a few Child ballads, love songs, a whole regiment of recruitin' songs, and I can't remember.

Another great evening with John in the chair. He is so versatile and he knows his stuff - it was a real pleasure to have him here again.

Mary, I thought your "Lost & Found" was the trash bin...

Yes, I brought you the tasteful be-legged cork wine bottle stopper. Also the tasteful shell musicians -- guitarist, drummer and flute(?)-ist. Wish I'd had time to find a suitable banjo replacement for the cardboard guitar, but I gave the proper sized banjo (actually a pin) to Suzette some years ago.

Oh, yes, the rest of the giftings were pretty amazing, too -- especially the ones with sound effects.

I rather like your birthday choices for me, although the cemetery picture and the flamingo chalkboard fit into the house a lot better than the fountain. Haven't a clue as to where I have room for a seahorse fountain. (Couldn't find a squid, could ya?)

It was great fun! John is always an absolute joy to see, and it does not matter a lot whether he is singing, telling tales, or playing. I absolutely loved 'Bringing Nelson Home' which was new to me and 'The Two Magicians' which was not heard for a long time. ('Rampant women' forsooth.) I don't often put in requests to musicians because one never knows what one gets, but I do ask John about songs sometimes, because he is likely to pull out something amazing.
The food, the company, and the near nonstop laughter added to the music make the drive up more than worth it! Thanks for everything!
