Is it a coincidence or are Shep Wooley and Sheb Wooley connected in any way?

Shep Wooley is an English singer. His real surname is Wooley, and as a teenager gained the nickname 'Sheb' from the American Country singer. When he joined the navy, his shipmates, perhaps not so well up in music, changed this to 'Shep' with the obvious sheep/wool connection. Shep Wooley he still is today, and a very entertaining singer and writer of sea songs.

This is the Shep Woolley website http://www.shepwoolley.co.uk/

Notice spelling of surname.

Shep is more than a singer. He is a comedian/after dinner speaker/presenter of a radio program/folk singer.

When he appeared at Faldingworth Live last Christmas, he did his show "Rock and Roll (Elvis to Revolver) Accoustic.

It was an hilarious show and he did some excellent songs. So much so, I was asked by my audience to get him back. So I have.

He should not be confused with Sheb Wooley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9H_cI_WCnE

A couple of weeks ago we had a thread on the 'classic?' film, "Hootenanny Hoot". If memory serves, Sheb Wooley was one of the featured performers in that turkey.

Once again t'other½ has arrived home with a great wodge of leaflets advertising the above event and telling me to shove a posting up on here to publicise it!

Seriously though, Saturday and Sunday, the 13th and 14th of June, look like been a good time at Crich Tramway Village.

On Saturday there will be local musicians & dancers performing whilst travelling on the trams, sipping tea in the tea rooms and downing ale in the pub.

On Sunday will be the same again PLUS A Grand Folk Concert starting at 1:30 with Keith Kendrick & Sylvia Needham, Shep Woolley and, making a return appearance, Julie Felix.

Admission for each day is the standard £10.50 for adults, £5.50 children, £9.50 Senior Citizens with a Family Ticket for £29.50.

There is no extra charge for the concert.

The answer quite simply is absolutely not. Shep Woolley is a British singer/comedian/songwriter and also a verty good friend of mine and Sheb Wooley was born in Oklahoma, USA.

Never the twian shall meet!

Ben Colder was Sheb's alter ego and did some great comical songs. So I guess Shep and Sheb are not as related as Sheb and Ben. :-}

Please check link above - It went to the 'closed' Faldingworth Live site, which has some great photos.... but didn't help with Shep!!

Incidentally I saw the very Mr Woolley on Saturday night at a Black Tie Dinner and he had most of the guests howling and crying with laughter. What a performer! So quick, such perfect timing and incredible guitar work too. From Les Barker, to Jake Thackray and Peter Sarstedt, brilliant entertainment.... and he'll be back this way in September at Cottingham Live. Lucky us.Hx

Shep woolley is not to be confused with Dick Miles either,Shep did have Dick Miles on his radio station at least once or even twice, that was Dick Miles the singer/ concetina player not Dick Miles who did The Last Goodbye.
