Subject: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: GUEST,RDM Date: 08 Jun 09 - 08:18 PM I'm searching for a copy of the recording "Boots of Spanish Leather" from the album Poor Fellows by Tony Rose....the album seems to be virtually non-existent! When I first heard the song on the radio in 1988 I fell in love with it...it took me YEARS to find out who and what it was! I have been trying to find a recording since. I'm willing to buy it, I'd even be thrilled with a homespun tape recording of the one song... I'm new to this messaging thing, so I don't even know what's the proper protocol to have people contact me if they can help. Maybe I'm supposed to check in here? But just in case not, here's a link to my web-site contact page- http://theshepherdschild.wordpress.com/contact-us/ Is there anyone who can help? |
Subject: RE: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: Surreysinger Date: 08 Jun 09 - 08:41 PM RDM - Poor Fellows is no longer available, for many reasons which have been covered on this site many times, and which I don't propose to go into here. Tony rerecorded a number of his previous popular recordings some years ago on the CD "Bare Bones", and one of the tracks which were included was Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather". I've just been hunting and it looks as though this CD itself may no longer be available, though you may be able to find it by hunting around if you're lucky. A review of the CD can be found here although if you follow the link and attempt to buy it, the CD does not appear to be available. |

Subject: RE: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: Surreysinger Date: 08 Jun 09 - 09:10 PM Can I add that I purchased that CD when it first came out, and would heartily recommend it (in the absence of the original recording, of course). I can also recommend the recording of live performances by Tony, entitled "Exe", which was released last summer - and that certainly IS still available. |

Subject: RE: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: Surreysinger Date: 09 Jun 09 - 06:23 AM If we're into that the closest I can get is that my sister has a copy which I have access to! |
Subject: RE: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: Dave Sutherland Date: 09 Jun 09 - 08:40 AM I bought my copy from Roy Harris when he was selling off some his vinyl collection prior to moving to Cardiff. He was, understandably, rather reluctant to part with it. |
Subject: RE: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: Tradsinger Date: 09 Jun 09 - 09:49 AM Our duo 'Two Dogs' recorded it about 10 years ago for a CD. PM me and I'll send you details. Tradsinger |

Subject: RE: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: Reinhard Date: 09 Jun 09 - 02:59 PM And Bare Bones is still for sale on Nic Jones' webnsite |
Subject: RE: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: Reinhard Date: 09 Jun 09 - 03:17 PM Why are ou so aggressive, "Guest Lock and Key"? From the first postings I assume(d) that Guest,RDM is Ross Campbell. And his posting was nice and friendly. |
Subject: RE: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: Surreysinger Date: 09 Jun 09 - 04:07 PM Actually Reinhard, if you check those links to Molliemusic out right the way through the chain from Nic's website, unless they've changed since I looked yesterday, you will see that they are not offering the CD for sale, although it is up on main website ... the only CD available for sale via Molliemusic is Exe. (Checking on Amazon also shows that no CDs are available). |
Subject: RE: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: Surreysinger Date: 09 Jun 09 - 04:09 PM I too, by the way, had assumed that Ross Campbell might well be the OP, although it's none too clear - but the content of his message certainly gives that impression! |
Subject: RE: Tony Rose's Boots of Spanish Leather From: Reinhard Date: 09 Jun 09 - 04:32 PM You're right, Surreysinger; I only looked at Nic Jones' site and didn't follow the link to Mollie Music. But Bare Bones must have sold out quite recently as I bought my copy only a few months ago. Seems I had quite a bit of luck... and I hope for you others' sake there will be a reissue. |
