I gather that someone variously calling himself "Richard Bridge" or "Hoff Bridge" is posting messages of support for the BNP at digg and sending abusive messages to members of the "folk against fascism" facebook group.

"Hoff" is short for "Hoffmeister".

There are only a very few places where I have used or been referred to by both names - and the 'cat is one of them.

But "Hoff Bridge" isn't me (as neither is that other "Richard Bridge".

You may want to keep a wary eye on Daily Mail Reader - I suspect that he or his cronies are the guilty parties.


You may also want to have a look at Robin Loxley on facebook, saying

"Keep a wary eye out. Someone (I am told) is sending abusive messages of support for the loathsome BNP and signing them "Hoff Bridge" and/or "Richard Bridge. That lowlife is not the real Richard Bridge (who is quite an old leftie, really).

Tells you quite a lot about the BNP, really, doesn't it?"

I don't know if it indicates that the group has the BNP worried, or that they're just a thoroughly unpleasent lot anyway.

The "BNP-Mudcat-Folk Against Fascism" stuff at Mudcat is distressing, but I don't see where there is a lot we can do about it. It it's troublesome to you, I think the best thing to do is to complain to Facebook.

In a situation like this, the usual common-sense rules apply. The more you reveal about yourself on the Internet, the more you expose yourself to risk. If you make people angry at you, they can get back at you in ways you never imagined, especially if you've been less-than-careful about protecting your personal information. If you're doctrinaire about what you say on the Internet, opponents who are even more doctrinaire, will come after you from all corners.

I recall the post. It wasn't written in *support* of the BNP, I think it was critical of politicians failing to heed the publics discomfort with immigration, and THAT lack of political interest in ordinary peoples concerns, being what is drawing people to the BNP?

It was just cut and pasted with a few alterations that made it sound so, much the same has happened with a few other posters comments.

I don't know the truth about immigration, whether much of it is happening or not. Because I simply don't see it. I've heard lots of anecdotal stuff about certain local seaside towns having a high proportion of fresh immigrants and it causing an increase in particular types of crime. But I've absolutely no idea if it's true. There are certainly more Eastern Europeans around than a few years ago (and that's reflected in fresh aisles in the supermarket to cater to their shopping habits) but not all that many as far as I can tell. And the fresh aisles in the supermarket, are as much impact as I'm aware of on local 'culture'.

I've now written three separate complaints to facebook. My Mudcat photo was stolen from a members only access page at Mudcat, and used as the profile photo of the fake "Kat Coffey" at facebook. So, it has to be a Mudcat member who stole it. I am sure facebook will delete as asap. I am not sorry to have deleted my real facebook account several weeks ago.

Haven't been over to London for a while but last I heard it was still there between Teddington and Twickenham. The one that stands up by the way is Tower Bridge.
