Hello all from 'sunny' Limerick.

This is my first Mudcat post. I've did a search on the topic but nothing has come up. I am wondering if anybody out there can point me in the direction of some websites or literature on songs of the French Revolution? Preferably in English apologies, but my French is appalling.

Thanks,

Mike

There is a superb 8-volume set "Histoire de France par les chansons" by Pierre Barbier and France Vernillat. Volume 4 covers the Revolution.

capsule review

It's all in French though.

Reading it in the original will do wonders for your command of French obscenity and vituperation. This is the place that thought up voodoo death dolls of Sarkozy and it wasn't any more polite 200 years ago.

Hi again,

Thanks for the quick replies.

To Jack, my apologies I should have said my French is non existent, which is a great shame the resource you've pointed me to seems like a great one.

To Geoff, thanks I had seen this book on Amazon but was holding off the purchase thanks very though.

Oh, and just in case anybody following this thread is wants to look into this topic i.e. songs of the French Revolution, I've found one site which I intend delving into more in the coming weeks, the web address is http://chnm.gmu.edu/revolution/
