Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: GUEST,Chris Murray Date: 16 Jun 09 - 12:35 PM Damien who? I've booked to see Ruzzer at the Symphony Hall in Bham at Christmas. Will she still be playing? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Michael Date: 16 Jun 09 - 12:57 PM From Kate's website Some of you attending the recent concerts will know already but our latest good news is that Kate and her partner, Damien O'Kane, are expecting their first child in early September. We are all really excited and can't wait! It does mean that there won't be any tour dates in the Autumn. All being well, Kate and co will be on tour again in December with the Christmas Show. 20/05/2009 |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: GUEST,buspassed Date: 17 Jun 09 - 05:19 AM There's a lineup for the future then, Waterson:Rusby! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: jeddy Date: 17 Jun 09 - 04:59 PM i'm confused !!!! i thought she was married to john mcusker(?) you know who i mean. i knew she was weary but where and who is this damian, and what does he have to do with the watersons? see i told you i was confused. take care all jade x x |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: GUEST,Chris Murray Date: 17 Jun 09 - 06:27 PM She and John McCusker were married but split up. They kept on making music for a while but seem to have made a clean break now. I think John is making sweet music with Heidi Talbot and Kate has obviously found happiness with Damien O'Kane. I'm glad they're both happy. John always manages to play at Cambridge. Anyone know who he'll be supporting this year? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Tootler Date: 17 Jun 09 - 07:18 PM For those who don't know, Damien O'Kane hails from Northern Ireland and plays tenor banjo and guitar superbly. He was one of the orignal graduates from the Newcastle Folk Music degree and taught on the Caedmon Folk classes at the Sage, Gateshead for a time. I wasn't in any of his classes, but I knew people who were and they spoke well of him. You can find out more about him on his myspace page http://www.myspace.com/damienokane |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: jeddy Date: 17 Jun 09 - 07:26 PM thankyou, boy am i behind on the gossip!!! still don't get the ' watersons thing' but hey i don't need to know everything. i am just glad she is happy too jade x x x |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Folknacious Date: 17 Jun 09 - 08:10 PM Eliza Carthy recently had a baby too. So maybe GUEST,buspassed meant Carthy:Rusby rather than Waterson:Rusby. I bet those little 'uns will be a fiddlin' and a singin' about stiff sailors before 2010's out. Beware all you young female folkies, there's obviously a stork out there with your name on! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: jeddy Date: 17 Jun 09 - 09:35 PM thankyou, FOLK, i knew that eliza had just had one, but didn't put the two together. i hope the stork passes me by i would have some serious explaining to do to the mrs!!! lol take care jade x x yes i did mean mrs x |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Bonzo3legs Date: 18 Jun 09 - 06:02 AM So he's her boyfriend then? I don't know about all this hideous "partner" nonsense. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Will Fly Date: 18 Jun 09 - 06:13 AM Well, not to hijack this thread over semantics, there might be a teensy difference between "boyfriend" and "partner". I think "partner" perhaps implies a little more commitment than "boyfriend" - i.e. living together, setting up home together, making a solid life together, having children, etc. But without benefit of clergy. As my son and his partner have done. A "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" - to me - implies a slightly more casual and separate relationship. But what's in a word... |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Bonzo3legs Date: 18 Jun 09 - 07:52 AM The partner angle is relatively recent - spurting from the PC idiots! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: BB Date: 18 Jun 09 - 10:13 AM Not necessarily from 'PC idiots' - it just explains the relationship a bit more clearly, as Will says. I find it a very convenient term. Barbara |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Marje Date: 18 Jun 09 - 12:36 PM The trouble with "partner" is that it covers various situations. If someone was described as "Kate Rusby's partner", it could be a singing partner or an accompanist; the same confusion can occcur in business relationships. In this discussion it was clear enough because he is the father of her child, but he could have been her on-stage partner without being her boyfriend. I don't have an answer for this, though. I think boyfriend/girlfriend work well enough before the couple become parents, but once there's a child, maybe we need a different term for the relationship. Maybe we should just call them husband and wife at this stage, and leave it to them to choose whether to add the legal back-up of making this official. Marje |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Bainbo Date: 18 Jun 09 - 01:31 PM 1) Please don't respond to Bonzo / Boko / Steven. In none of his guises has he ever said anything informative or constructive. He's a troll hoping to stir up a reaction. 2) Miss Rusby's domestic arrangements are none of our business. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: The Borchester Echo Date: 18 Jun 09 - 01:42 PM Indeed, yes. In the course of that other inappropriate "discussion" about Ms Carthy's event six months ago, someone even inquired whether "there was a man involved". A person's disclosure of "others", whether significant or not, is entirely their business. Had there not been a named father, how much egg would the nosey inquirer have been obliged to scrape off their face? Those of a fanzine mentality should seek their trivia elsewhere. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Bonzo3legs Date: 19 Jun 09 - 05:03 AM "1) Please don't respond to Bonzo / Boko / Steven. In none of his guises has he ever said anything informative or constructive. He's a troll hoping to stir up a reaction. 2) Miss Rusby's domestic arrangements are none of our business." 1) I'm not sure that you are entirely correct. 2) You are correct, I am just saying that I will not change my rules to include the use of the word "partner". I use husband, wife, boyfriend and girlfriend which I think adequately covers all situations. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Bonzo3legs Date: 19 Jun 09 - 05:14 AM And as far as her new album is concerned, I look forward to hearing it! She is a very nice lady and I wish her all the best. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Will Fly Date: 19 Jun 09 - 05:31 AM Bonzo3legs - just to be a little more accurate, your original comment was: I don't know about all this hideous "partner" nonsense. Perhaps a little more pejorative than just saying you won't change your own rules to include the use of the word "partner"... Your rules are your rules, and no-one has any right to expect you to change them. Others may not think that the use of the word is hideous nonsense. My violin teacher - a lovely, caring, talented lady - shares her life with another woman, whom she terms and wishes to have termed, her partner. Who am I, and who is anyone else, to contest that? Just a small point. Back on topic a bit more: I too wish KR all the best. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Bonzo3legs Date: 19 Jun 09 - 06:17 AM I'll bear that in mind at Beaufort Polo Club tomorrow! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Tug the Cox Date: 19 Jun 09 - 07:27 AM Partner, of course, entails more than 'boyfriend'. It is Not PC atv all, it just replaces the former 'Common law husband' with something more user friendly. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: jeddy Date: 19 Jun 09 - 07:47 AM i admit to being an old gosip, but that does not mean that i wish anyone harm nor does it mean that i judge anyone. i am purely interesred in the lives of others, why is that such a bad thing? is itsn't it a nice thing to be interested in what someone else is up to? i always thought so, maybe i am wrong. good luck to everyone, that is what i say, the more people that are happy the better!!! take care all jade x x |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby New Album From: Marje Date: 19 Jun 09 - 08:05 AM Since Kate has chosen to announce this on her website, I don't think it's idle gossip for us to comment on it here, or that it's none of our business. People who attend her concerts and buy her recordings will be interested to know the reason for any lack of tours/gigs for a while in the autumn, and perhaps be more understanding if there are last-minute changes to her schedule. And I'm sure many fans will want to send their good wishes to the couple. Marje |
