How embarrassing. Yes, of course, it's a chestnut tree. And I'm a tree person! It was a "diseased trees" mix-up.

And I don't know when the first time this weekend sing was organized. A project I've been meaning to do is to find my old journals on floppy discs and transfer them to current storage systems. Then I'll be able to find out.

It's a great 24 hours of singing, anyway.

Shoot, David, I don't know how we'll sing to 5 a.m. without you (or Rita for that matter)and it's a chestnut tree that you are singing under. Do you remember how many years we've been doing this?

Sure hope someone changed the thread title soon -- CAMPOUT IS THE 11th and 12th.

This is usually a wonderful singing event with a fair few good singers and some listeners and singing sessions going all all the time Saturday, good company for the pot luck dinner and then a song circle around the campfire until the wee hours, sometimes going on until 5:00 AM! Then more singing on Sunday. The members of the singing circle are constantly shifting during the daytime sessions with some going swimming or hiking or talking (away from the singers, of course) and the singing usually takes place under a large elm tree. The group is big enough to have some good diversity but small enough to be personable and there are usually some new (to the weekend) singers adding more interest.

Great weekend of singing!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to be there this year. I'll be near Salt Lake City to watch my son compete in the National Junior Rock Climbing championships!

Well kat and all, you must have found a link to a different year.

THIS YEAR -2009- THE CAMPOUT IS THE 11TH AND 12TH!

PM me if you want more information. I think this is the 18th year or so that we are doing this. Happens every summer on the second or third week of July.
Can one of you clones PLEASE change it in the thread title. That would be lovely. It's so much more fun if everyone comes on the same weekend, don't you think?

Yup, that's it. But the Portland FolkSong Society calendar says that "July 11 will be part of the annual PFS summer camp out at the home of Barbara & Mark Millikan."   

And when I check my wall calendar, I see that July 19-20, 2009 falls on Sunday, Monday.   So something's clearly off there.

July 19-20 11 - 12 at the Millikan farm in Polk County near Sheridan Oregon.

When: Saturday and Sunday, July 19-20 11 - 12. Arrive anytime Saturday, leave in the afternoon on Sunday.

Where: Barbara and Mark Millikan's farm, Sheridan Oregon

Who:   PFS members and their guests

Planned activities: potluck dinner Saturday afternoon, campfire sing Saturday night, Sunday pancake brunch (PFS will provide). This is camping- bring your own tent and sleeping gear.

Likely activities: Magnificent scenery - watch gliding hawks and gracious oaks. Hikes around the property, swimming in the river, musical jam sessions throughout the weekend, children at play. Campfire under the stars!

Anyone else from the Seattle area going to the PFS summer camp-out down in Oregon?   It's the second weekend in July at the farm of Mark and Barbara Millikan, and I'd love to carpool.
