Subject: Tech: help with Swiss music site From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 17 Jun 09 - 06:13 PM Here's the URL for a Swiss folk music site http://www.volksmusiknet.ch/ This site says (in German) that one can listen to folk music 24 hours a day. But no matter what I click, nothing plays. I have a new computer, XP Pro and broadband, so I don't suppose my equipment is the problem. Would somebody who's more savvy with radio over the web please try this site and then tell me what things to click? I'm convinced that Swiss folk music would really help me clean up the house fast. Thanks. PS Why is the domain for Switzerland 'ch'? |
Subject: RE: Tech: help with Swiss music site From: Stewart Date: 17 Jun 09 - 06:44 PM Hi leeneia, First click on the red "+ Music-Radio" then select bandwith - loband (mono) or hiband (stereo) then click on your computer player (winamp, quicktime, etc) you should get the music on you computer that should keep you hopping - enjoy and CH stands for Confoederatio Helvetica (Latin) the country code for Switzerland Cheers, S. in Seattle |
Subject: RE: Tech: help with Swiss music site From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 17 Jun 09 - 07:50 PM I had to click a couple of other things, including the 'real' icon on about the third screen to get started. Not sure just what I did, I clicked several things before I got it. Got the usual beer hall harmony, and some oom-pah with accordion. |
Subject: RE: Tech: help with Swiss music site From: Ernest Date: 18 Jun 09 - 02:10 AM Be careful: Listening to music from the Bern area will certainly slow you down!* ;0) Ernest *=Explanation: It is an old jokes that the people from Bern are very slow in everything they do... |
Subject: RE: Tech: help with Swiss music site From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 18 Jun 09 - 09:46 AM Those are things I already tried. I've clicked on radio, selected the band, chosen media player, which is indeed on my computer. I turned off the pop-off blocker, but that made no difference. I get to a screen that says "24 Uhr Stunden Nonstopp" at the top. Below that, a box has been blanked out. (That may be where the link to the music is.) The rest has to do with a 'widget.' Stewart, thanks for the explanation about CH. It is an interesting solution to a modern problem. ie What do we call our domain when our people speak German, French, Italian or Romansch? We do this - we take a term from Latin. That way it's fair. Some people might derogate the music as mere oompah, but I enjoy the fast-moving accordion lines and the sweet melodies. And the yodeling. Can't forget the yodeling. |
Subject: RE: Tech: help with Swiss music site From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 20 Jun 09 - 01:30 AM I figured it out. After selecting Media Player, I have to click "musik abspielen." I was avoiding that, because 'ab-' means away, or off, and I thought it meant to turn the music off. Apparently it means to turn the music on. What a relief. Some of it's going to be mediocre, and some of it's going to be lovely, just like any country's music. Ernest, thanks for the joke about Bern. Recently I was in Geneva, Basel and Lauterbruennen. The sound of Swiss music reminds me of those lovely places. |
