Anne,Yes I remember Roberta Sherwood I first heard her sing Cry Me a River, and that was way back in 1956 I came from Ireland and was staying with friend's in New York . They had a record of Roberta and that song has stayed with me all these years.It is now popler again , but nobody sing's itlike Roberta. Anne in Dublin.

Roberta Sherwood sure could belt out a song! She must have been well into her 40s, matronly looking with thick glasses when I first saw her on local (Los Angeles) telethons. But she proved you didn't have to look like Julie London or Joni James (who?) to be popular. Saw her the first time I went to Vegas. Lucky, lucky angels.---John

Yes, she was unique - what style! My brother and his wife have been long time fans and since I was exposed to that music as I grew up, I came to appreciate Roberta as well. Have seen her in person twice. WEnt to Wabash, INdiana and just about missed her act (they changed the line up) as the four of us were next door in a little bar waiting to only hear Roberta! Took her out for breakfast - only little spot open was truck stop (of sorts) and we had eggs and bacon and wine! Took our children to see her while appearing at French Lick Resort in French Lick, INdiana and she hosted us for a late dinner after her performance! Our intent had been to treat her, of course. What a lady!

My brother would talk to her on the phone periodically through the years and had a nice conversation with one of her three sons after her passing. They're interested in getting some of her best music onto CD - that would be terrific. Anyway, just some fond memories I wanted to share.

yes i remerber and loved her unique voice---- "the moon has a few new wrinkles, shines a bit more sober now than gold - i'm stayin young, i'm stayin young - while everyone surrounding me grows old" so long roberta !

Roberta Sherwood, torch singer from the early 50's? died on July 5th at the age of 87. She was probably best known for her unique rendition of "Up A Lazy River." Her family chose two of her recordings that were among their favorites for her funeral: "I'm Staying Young" and "How Deep Is The Ocean." She was a dear lady in the truest sense of the word. I just wanted to share the news of her passing. I believe my favorite recording by Roberta was, "How Many Arms Have Held You."
