Transcribed by me from the sound file at Fran Snyder's web site. It's a mock-mournful blues.

I LEFT THE SEAT UP
Fran Snyder

She walks in with a rattlesnake in each hand and she asks me for the truth,
And lies don't come as easily as they did in my youth
When I left the seat up.
I left the seat up,
And a woman will forgive a man almost anything,
And he can crash the car, look at a girl, even lose his wedding ring,
But don't leave the seat up.
Oh, who left the seat up?
Baby knows. She knows it was me
'Cause I stand when I pee.
Oh, she was so sweet till I forgot to put down the toilet seat.

The back of her dress is drippin' water all across the kitchen floor,
And I get the sneakin' suspicion that I don't live here anymore
Since I left the seat up.
(Sing it, boys.) Oh, I left the seat up.
Baby knows. She knows it was me
'Cause I stand when I pee.
Oh, I'm on the street 'cause I forgot to put down the toilet seat.

Why is it so hard for a woman to look down?
Why is it so hard for a woman to look down?
(Can I get an "amen", brothers?)

Now, this shouldn't be funny, 'cause I been homeless for awhile,
But there is still that mental picture that always makes me smile.
I see that look on her face and her ankles up in the air,
And I'll bet anybody twenty dollars she had to throw out that underwear
'Cause I left the seat up.
Oh, I left the seat up.
Baby knows. (I'm sorry...!) She knows it was me
'Cause I stand when I pee.
Oh, she was so sweet till I forgot to put down--
Watch out for your bare feet 'cause I forgot to put down the toilet seat.

Oh, look down, look down, look down, woman.

[As sung by Fran Snyder on his album "Live...And Then Some", 2006.]

Very good, Jim. Thanks for posting.

We always put down the seat and the lid. The lid helps catch spray.

The song also reminds me of a book I once read by Evan Hunter. Main character was a hot-shot lawyer from New York. Wife asks him why he sits down to pee. "It's my only chance to rest," says he.

Poor guy may be rich, but he never gets to learn any funny blues songs.
