I'll be there on the Sunday selling records for Fair Havens Hospice in Southend, for which purpose Angie Bladen has very kindly donated me some space. The records used to belong to Keith Summers, late editor of Musical Traditions magazine, and Fair Havens is the hospice where Keith spent his final few days.

Just arrived home after 3 perfect days at the best 'singers' Festival in the country.
Every event was an absolute joy - artists such fun and so good humoured (don't tell Bill & Dave I said that - they have their reputation to protect) and the quality of the performances was definitely A+.

Thanks to Ken and Angie and all involved - Now the National is defunct, this is that next best thing. Long may it survive.

Nutty ... couldn't agree more. Just got home this afternoon myself, after a stopover in Watford last night. Even though I hardly got to see many of the people I wanted to see thanks to my own commitments over the weekend, it was a great weekend ... enlivened by the fact that Ralphie's car, and the Kwik Fit saga seemed to become one of the events of the weekend, judging by the number of people who were asking about it, and even querying at the start of our folk club slot!! It was a privilege to be there, and a joy to renew acaquaintances, make a few new friends, and sing and play a bit !!
Thanks to Ken and Angie as well. (BTW, I think that the National is not necessarily totally defunct ... speaking to John Heydon a few months ago, the search is still on for somewhere suitable for it... and I suspect it would be resurrected if one could be found. So if anybody knows anywhere ... let John know!!!! I miss that Festival immensely).

It reminded me very much of the National too.
Hard work but many enjoyable highlights, and being able to have a few tunes, songs and laughs with some of my favourite "squeezer geezer" friends on Sunday afternoon was a great end to the weekend. (for us - I know the festival went on into the evening)

Re my message of June 23rd, about selling records at the Traditions festival for charity. I thought I'd posted a follow up message yesterday, but it obviously hasn't landed, so here's take two.

The sale raised a total of £211.00 which included a £10.00 donation, plus £20.00 from me, which Angie asked me to donate in lieu of a day ticket.

It's not exactly in the same league as Band Aid, but it's still £211.00 which the hospice movement wants and needs, and is better off for. And it means I can see just a little bit more of my bedroom carpet.

Thanks to everyone who bought, and thanks especially to Angie and Ken for allowing me to sell the stuff and making me feel so welcome.

Sminky. Glad you liked it. I remember telling you what a great CD it is. For all you unlucky people it's The Secret Museum of Mankind: The Music of Madagascar: Classic Traditional Recordings of the 1930s. Yazoo 7003. An absolute scorcher.

I'm right there with nutty and Anahata regarding comparisons with the National. Small rooms and a clutch of singers (several of the very best, IMO) or musicians doing a round-robin, and bouncing ideas off each other. There's not enough opportunity for that kind of thing on the festival circuit. Thanks Angie and Ken.

Thank you Angie & Ken for another great festival, one of the highlights for me was on the first night, when the concert in the Drama room was finished off by Jim Mageean, Ken Wilson(what a voice) and Barrie&Ingrid, singing together. The rest of the weekend carried on in the same way, shame about the weather, which didn't dampen things to much. Just hope you don't listen to all this press regarding the 'New National' and try to change what you have. Which is a lovely festival.
