Subject: Chord Req: Little Green Valley by Fret Killer UTube From: HiHo_Silver Date: 23 Jun 09 - 06:48 PM Help: Unable to get this chord progression: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLB2cFMBiT4 Little Green Valley It's not hard to see just what's wrong me all th time When I tell ya I'm homesick, lonesome an' sad There's a deep regret I can never get off of my mind Cause I went t' roamin' left the only home I ever had I hear a mockin' bird down in th little green valley He's singin' out his heart to welcome me Someone waits by th garden gate down in th little green valley When I get home again how happy I will be Down by a little babbling brook, once more I'll wander And in a shady nook, I'll dream the hours away That's where I'll leave all my cares behind Go where I know I'll find sunshine Back to that little ole green valley, far away All night long in my dreams I see a spot far away Nestled in those hills in th land that I love Stormy weather may come, but whether th sky is blue or gray I keep dreamin' of sunlight, streamin from heaven above I see a candlelight down in th little green valley Where morning-glory vines are twinin' round th door How, I wish I were there tonight, down in th little green valley For then my homesick heart would trouble me no more There is only one thought ever gives me consolation An' that's th dream that I'll be goin' back someday Now, ever night down upon my knees I pray th Lord'll please take me Back to that little ole green valley, far away Thanks in advance for any help: Jim |

Subject: RE: Chord Req:Little Green Valley by Fret Killer UTube From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 06 Jul 09 - 08:31 PM Sorry, I'll try another way. Perhaps Joe will crean up my errors. *Also I think an Am or A7 should be before "thought" [C]I see a candlelight [F]down in the little green valley Where Morning [G]Glory vines are twining round my [C]door. Oh, how I wish I were there again [F]Down in the little green [C]valley. That's where my [G]homesick heart will trouble me no [C]more. Subject: RE: Chord Req:Little Green Valley by Fret Killer UTube From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 06 Jul 09 - 08:44 PM *Am or A7 should read Dm or D7. I give up, it just ain't my night! :-} |
Subject: RE: Chord Req:Little Green Valley by Fret Killer UTube From: PoppaGator Date: 07 Jul 09 - 02:04 AM When you want to put chord symbols (letters) directly above a given word or syllable in a set of lyrics, you need to use a monospaced or "typewriter" font, such as Courier. Every character (including punctuation marks and spaces as well as letters and numerals) is the same width, so you can predict how letters will line up vertically. What's especially problematic and confusing about trying to do this in a Mudact post is that your post is displayed in monospaced Courier when you are tryping it in, but whtn it's posted, it is converted to non-monospaced Times Roman (or equivalent.) So a passage that looks right to you as you enter it will fail to line up correctly once you've posted it. The HTML code to "start typewriter" is [open-bracket]tt[close-brcket], and of course to "end typewriter" is |
Subject: RE: Chord Req:Little Green Valley by Fret Killer UTube From: PoppaGator Date: 07 Jul 09 - 02:10 AM Oops! I wasn't fininshed & posted accidentally. The HTML code to "start typewriter" is [open-bracket]tt[close-bracket], and of course to "end typewriter" is [open-bracket]/tt[close-bracket]. For example: what we see above as: 1 4 I see a candlelight down in the little green valley 5 1 where Morning Glory vines are twining round my door. 1 Oh, how I wish I were there again 4 1 down in the little green valley. 5 1 That's where my homesick heart will trouble me no more. ...was originally typed, and was meant to look, like this: 1 4 I see a candlelight down in the little green valley 5 1 where Morning Glory vines are twining round my door. 1 Oh, how I wish I were there again 4 1 down in the little green valley. 5 1 That's where my homesick heart will trouble me no more. See? I copied a single passage and pasted it twice, once without and then once with the "tt" commands. Makes a big difference. In the Timnes Roman version, all the letters are different widths and the blank spaces ("word spaces") are much narrower than any letter, so the mostly-blank lines with the chord letters run shorter than they are meant to. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req:Little Green Valley by Fret Killer UTube From: PoppaGator Date: 07 Jul 09 - 02:25 AM HiHo, now that you know that FK is playing in C ~ well, actually in D, since he's capoed at the second fret and playing key-of-C chord shapes ~ you should be able to learn a few new licks by watching him. Actually, while he doesn't "give lessons" as explicitly as his fellow-headless-wonder DeltaBluesTips, Fretkillr's showing us exactly how he plays his songs. Not everyone will learn as quickly as others, and our singing abnilities may vary, but if you want to learn to play exactly what he's playing, he's giving us all the info required. Some plausing and rewinding will probably be required, but it's all there plain to see. Note that he (like many of us) plays the G chord with left pinky on the high E string, so the changes from C to F to G/G7 require minimum movement and really facilitate those walking-bass runs from one chord to the next. (I'm assuming that anyone who wasn't able to recognize the chords in the video is not real familiar with intermediate/advanced playing in the key of C, and might not be wise to that fingering for the G major chord.) Very nice song, by the way ~ I was not familiar with it before. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req:Little Green Valley by Fret Killer UTube From: PoppaGator Date: 07 Jul 09 - 02:29 AM Murray's transcription (above) is correct, by the way. One "minor" exception: I think that FK may be playing Dm7 rather than D7 the one brief moment that chord appears in each verse; but maybe it's the minor 7th only for the second verse. First time through, I don't hear the minor third so clearly ~ but not the major third, either... |
Subject: RE: Chord Req:Little Green Valley by Fret Killer UTube From: Murray MacLeod Date: 07 Jul 09 - 03:39 AM Poppagator is quite right, FK is indeed playing a Dm at 2.45 rather than a D7 . At 0.47 however, I think he is playing a D7, although as Poppagator says, you don't hear the major third that clearly. Both chords work for the song. If I were playing it , my instinct would be to play the D7 each time, YMMV. |
Subject: RE: Chord Req:Little Green Valley by Fret Killer UTube From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 07 Jul 09 - 08:30 AM Thanks PoppaGator for the info! The first was a copy & paste from Cowpie so it didn't work. I copied it into Word and re-pasted it but the same problem still existed. |
