Hi everyone,

I'm going to be at Sidmouth this year with the Spooky Men's Chorale (a fact which makes me immensely happy), but I'm planning to be travelling light. I'll have a sleeping bag but no tent, and I've just heard that they're scrabbling for accommodation for the nights we'll be there (Tues-Thurs).

So.... (and I know this is a big ask) does anyone know of a small amount of floor space (5'6'' x 1 tenor) that might be able to bear my sleeping form?

I have a tidy mind and am able to yodel if necessary. I can also supply references and a ready smile.

All offers considered (and I do mean, "all").

Love from a far off land,

John Thompson

John - have you tried a PM to Cllr, who has a house in Sidmouth? (Usually pretty full, but there might be floor space).

Will let you know if I get a better idea.

Kitty

If worse comes to worst, I'm pitching a tent on the campsite and vacating it by Tuesday, so you'd be welcome to move in. It's a big two bedroom affair - you can even stand up to put your trousers on. I don't need it back till I leave on Saturday.

We stayed in a reasonable hotel advertised as 4 star but really 2 star at most in 2002. I can't remember the name but it did have an outside swimming pool.

Probably the westcliffe but it does do a fabulous sunday lunch.

I have PM'd John about having floor space unless he gets a better offer 8-)

If you PM me I know someone who might have a single booked but may not be needed.

And in the same vein - do you know who to contact for the rugby club field pitches?

I will be in a quiet little campsite in Branscombe.

Hotels and B&B in Sidmouth are like to have been fully booked for months.
The Red Lion at Sidbury is worth checking - just far enough out of town that you might still get a room, but actually not too far away if you don't mind having to be sober enough to drive back there at night.

Yes. Also we several times exercised our residents' privilege of getting a round in after closing time...

Tourist information is worth trying. My wife and I went down on the Saturday last year on a whim because we were in Bath. I phoned the Tourist Info about 3pm and found somewhere for us to stay that evening. Might just have been lucky and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it in case you are less lucky but it was ok for us.

A folkie friend of mine has a house in central Sidmouth - it is newly decorated and up for sale (should you be interested!!) but to help make ends meet she is renting rooms for B&B during Folk Week at £30 pppn. It is literally 15 seconds walk from Blackmore Gardens. There is no parking, so you'd need to leave your car at the main festival car park.

Details are on the top of this webpage:

http://www.seered.co.uk/top_of_folk_festival.htm

The Tourist Information Centre TIC have their usual list of B&B houses that operate at this time of year only, but most are further out of town.

And the Rugby Club contacts for in-town camping? Anyone?

You could all go and sleep at Lizzie's house! :-)

As far as I know the Rugby Club motorhome spaces were filled a long time ago. The clubhouse number is 01395 516816.

Cricket club 513229
Tourist info centre 516441 (very helpful manager)

There is a horrible implication in the last post that Lizzie is still living in Sidmouth.

I thought she had gone.

I felt safe here again.

Maybe she has gone. I don't know. Nobody tells me anything. Lizzie's hardly likely to confide in me. :-)

They'll have to come and stay with you then.
