Subject: Knockholt 2009 Sept.errection(Marquee)
From: Pierre Le Chapeau
Date: 26 Jun 09 - 04:50 PM

There appears to be no shortage of folk at Knockholt to help put up the Marquee and indeed many hands make light work. This years I was down the Tally Ho when the Marquee went up hence I said I would help take it down. Which I did.
But there is more to tidying up Knockholt then the Marquee. The field has to be left has it is found. Any left over wood has to be put over on Dead Tree Copse. The ashes have to be raked and barrowed away and the water hosepipe has to be put away and rubbish removed,

I fill sorry for Mick Forde who seems to have to undertake his task on his own with what ever help he can muster or what ever help volunteers.
It is essentual that these tasks are carried out re the field being put right and that is why we have been invited back to Knockholt year in year out.
a solution has to be made in regards to the breakdown of Knockholt after the fest is finished. Drawing Lots from a Hat is not the answer. Some incentive maybe.........Not payment but how about free camping for three volunteers who will both put up and take down garenteed.

This sugestion was put to me and is not my idea. but it sounds reasonable? Folk mob commitee.
Dont bite me head off folks Im trying to find a answer to Knockholts only real problem.
Regards Pierre.
I had to trim a few personal attacks from this thread, along with responses to them. Be nice, people.

The only part that interests me is the "many hands" thing. So when I show up with an erection there will be many hands to service me? I can dig it! Now my question is this......Is "holt" some English word for boots? I reckon this is some kind of orgy thing and over here we say "knock boots" as a euphemism for fucking. Are you going to have an adequate supply of partners?

Sorry Spaw, but this is a fairly serious topic. We have a twice annual folk camp at a lovely place in Kent called Knockholt. Holt is I believe a badger's den. No more silly posts please, There seemed an adequate number of willing hands to erect the marquee, but, as Pierre says, not enough available bods on the last day. A lot of campers tend to get up in the morning, strike camp, and go, even though, they have enjoyed the facilities. In the past,my partner had helped with both the putting up and taking down of the marquee, but, since his heart attack has lost a lot of strength. Is a definite time set for marquee erection? If there was, then going to the pub needn't clash. I did what I could. I made tea for the erectors, gathered up loads of bottles that had just been dropped under chairs around the fire, and Mick Foorde bagged them. I tried throughout camp to continue the bagging up, though it was a losing battle keeping bottles, plastics, and cans seperate. Individuals should be made responsible for their own recycling. We all have council schemes, and all are slightly different in the way they want stuff packed for collection.
Spaw was merely trying to lighten things up and change the subject in the face of our anonymous (and now deleted) Guest. Spaw is to be considered an Official Mudcat Hero. He brought a lighter tone to the conversation and did not acknowledge the troll.

I can't imagine what kind of comment went on in this thread that Joe had to come in a clean it up. Perhaps the title of the thread is a bit suggestive. PlC would you be happy to have the title changed to Something like Knockholt camp clear up?

It seems an inappropriate discussion for a global forum.

Guest - Then everyone else can simply keep their noses and glib comments out can't they? There are numerous threads on Mudcat that apply only to a select few. House parties and such. There is also no rule that states we cannot create a thread to discuss issues to do with a folk music event, small as it may be.

Girl Friday - I agree that everyone should take away their own rubbish and recyclables. Again easily done by keeping your stuff together in a couple of carrier bags next to you chair in the circle. The problem is that when people get as wasted as some did on Saturday night, how aware or conscientious can they be? Even if I were a long time proper Folk Mob member and Knockholt attender I would not feel comfortable playing rubbish marshal while everyone is having fun.

PlC - I can't do a lot physically but can take a corner (if others help) to fold up canvas bits of the marquee. I will happily help in whatever way I can with the taking down and try not to get under foot.

TheSilentOne has also said he will help with the marquee deconstruction in September.

There is a point that maybe this is best left to the folkmob committee to sort out.

Oh for pity's sake. The thing is those attending are not all part of the same folk club and are coming from different areas. But those attending should take more responsibility.

It is appropriate to hold our discussions on this forum as they relate to a folk event.

I doubt if he/she will show their identity cowards seldom do. Best ignored. my comment about the committee sorting it out was not pandering to the coward - jusy my opinion, the same as it is my opinion that anybody in the free world should have the opportunity to make or not make comments on the matter good or bad in a reasonable civilised manner, without sinking into the sewer.

Yes, I want to ensure I'm copied in for volunteer services next time - this thread is relevent to anyone interested in attending the err Knockholt festival who isn't involved in the organisation side.

I don't read SINSULLS house concert threads or the Whitby or Mystic [etc.], but I do read the Knockholt ones - just a peculiarity of mine I guess.

In order to cease offending lone trolls in future though, it might be worth prefixing such threads with "UK".

Guest - if you are Arthur Wakefield or member of his club, then why not join the forum properly and if you are an MC member, then it is only fair and proper to share your opinions under your Mudcat ID.

Echoing Joe Offer, Please let's not be rude to one another. It doesn't help.

I agree with Woodsie this is an issue for the Folk Mob committee to sort out and the issue is already in hand and has been discussed at a meeting I don't see why there has to be a thread about it on Mudcat. The thread was not initiated by any MC members.

I thank everyone for their offers of help and will be sorting out work parties made up of volunteers on the saturday night before everyone has too many and hopefully that will solve the issue. Many hands make light work.
Can we let this thread die a natural death now please.

What do you think Pete? You were in on the original highly offensive remarks from Mr Wakefield of Bollington and the limited vocabulary.

Hi Abdul The Bul Bull.

This person wasv very offensive towards me.
This person come on site a Guest and called himself
Fred the Head.
He was seriously RUDE to friends of mine. He has clearly read the Knockholt thread in regards to VTs comments on Sheep eating Fag Butts and was Rotten in reply to her.

So clearly I told him what I thought of him. and sugested he ate a Fag butt and hopefully he would choke on it and also that he inserted Dick into his above, Guest title name.

I was no ruder then that
Regards Pierre.

I would think if there's a folk festival that needs volunteers for a job, Mudcat would be a likely place to ask for volunteers. Sure, it's only a temporary thing - but the thread will disappear form the Forum after the job is done.
I have a pretty good idea who our anonymous poster is. He used to use his name, and he has contributed some valuable information to the forum. For some reason, he posts anonymously most of the time now, and often gets pretty grumpy.

He suggests Joe, that he is Arthur Wakefield of Bollington Folk Club (Arthur Wakefields Folk Club. I'm glad he's not running our Folk Club and I wonder if his members know of his true personality.

Pete.

I'm in Dubai, an early riser and 3 hours ahead of UK so I was party to the whole original thread. I'm still outraged even now by his then anonymous postings.

There is further comment from Joe Offer placed further up the thread which I did not see prior to writing above post.

Catspaw49 I thought you were jumping on the Band wagon with this person. Sincere apologies for having a go at you. I could not understand it at the time because you post alot on Mudcat.

I now have a change of heart and ask Joe to keep the Thread open so over Mudcatters can view it and comment but please keep it clean.

Best regards to all Pierre. The subject of Knockholts Marquee is now being dealt with By Folkmob commitee. so no need toc comment on that issue any more.

Yes sorry Catspaw49 we did ignore you it's true.
I liked the "knock boots " and now shall have a new angle to any "Knock" terms. Knock on wood. Knock knees, Knock over, Knock me down will now have a different resonance.

Thanks Joe for cleaning the thread (luckily before I saw the posts from guest). I don't envy your job.

Dipsodeb and Mick are right. Let's let the thread die and when the committee have made the decisions and recommendations, a new thread to call for volunteers (if needed) can be started.

p.s. Spaw is a filthy old codger but good hearted and we love him for both characteristics.
