A fine singer of American traditional songs, Jeff Warner
(www.jeffwarner.com) accompanies himself on guitar, 5-string banjo & English concertina. He presents music from North Carolina to New England with warmth, humour & understated scholarship. He's also a great teacher with a deep understanding of the origins on the music & how to perform it for today's listeners.
The workshop will cover choice of instruments & styles, chords, voicings, scales, harmonies, how to accompany or be accompanied, playing with others, & performance tips. Styles & ideas used on Jeff's main instruments are transferrable to others. We won't be discussing guitar open tunings or banjo bluegrass picking.
MP3s & music will be sent ahead for sample songs. Recording devices are welcome.

I swear we're following each other around, Valmai!

Jeff is doing a workshop for Shammick Acoustic in N. Devon on 22nd August on 'Songs From Across the Pond', when he'll look at American songs, and songs that have crossed the Atlantic - both ways.

Find out more - and a booking form - at this website.

"We won't be discussing guitar open tunings or banjo bluegrass picking."
Kind of reminds me of Fred McDowell's "You understand, I do not play no rock and roll, just the straight and natural blues." :)

The advance music for Jeff's all-day workshop in Lewes on 19th. September is now ready to be sent out (four songs as mp3s, plus words). Jeff recommends bringing a recording device if you have one, and also a song to try out in the group.

Jeff performs at the Lewes Saturday Folk Club in the evening.

We still have places at the workshop and tickets for the evening performance. A booking form is in my first post on this thread, or you can download one from the Lewes Saturday Folk Club website.

Jeff should not be missed. He is truly consider here locally (New England) and nationally as an American treasure trove of the music that America was whined on & rised on & with. Even to many of us here who search high & low for the wonderfull & obscure music of America, along the Sea Islands, harbors, mountains, Lumber & mining camps etc, Jeff just keeps coming up with the gems that the rest of us love to sing & his use on more instruments than what's mentioned above for accompanyment & tunes is just as sweet as & as fine as you could ever expect from someone who was not only raised at the feet of 2 of America's most well respected folk collectors but who also grew up meeting those sources & inheriting the love of their home grown music. There's no finer presenter/interpretor today of our folk music than Jeff
To miss him, with what he has to offer would be a true shame.

Barry
