Subject: Angela Brazil From: GUEST,matt milton Date: 29 Jun 09 - 02:16 PM Listening to a track, 'The Poor Smuggler's Boy', from a compilation called Songs of the Travelling People. (see/hear at: http://www.emusic.com/album/Various-Artists-Saydisc-Songs-Of-The-Travelling-People-MP3-Download/10589319.html) She has one of the loveliest voices I've ever heard. Sort of a bit Billie Holliday, a bit Karen Dalton. Really stands out in the context of the voices on this particular album - totally out of kilter (not that the other performances aren't fantastic, of course). Although her surname is spelled 'Brasil' on the track listings, I assume she's part of the Brazil family, right? Can anyone tell me if there are any more recordings of her? I know there's a Brazil family recording on mustrad... |
Subject: RE: Angela Brazil From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 29 Jun 09 - 02:51 PM Clones, please correct the spelling of her name to Angela Brasil. With Mary Ellen Connors et al. she sings a very good "Edward" (Child 13) on the Alan Lomax disc, "Folk Songs of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales: Classic Ballada vol. 1. RDR-1775. Who is she? |

Subject: RE: Angela Brazil From: GUEST Date: 30 Jun 09 - 06:54 AM Yes, I looked at the track listing for that Musical Traditions CD last night. I'd been meaning to get around to buying that CD for a long time anyway, and hearing that version of 'Poor Smuggler's Boy' has clinched it. Does anyone know if any members of the Brazil family are still performing? |
