I wonder whether anyone out there could help me track down three old McCalmans records which I have been looking for for some time. They are: 1) All in One Mind, 2) Turn Again, and 3) At Your Service.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

I do have all the McCalmans CD's and most of the Vinyl Albums, starting with the 1975 Smuggler. So I do have a copy of "At Your Service" though with a different cover and only named "Live". Same songs. With a few other Dutch McCalmans fans I managed to trace copies of the older albums and so we were able to get these on CDR. I'd rather have the originals but they are impossible to get. I have "Turn Again" and I'm sure I also have "All in one Mind" but I can't find the last one at the moment.

The McCalmans website states that they can provide CD copies of old vinyl albums. The site can be found
here.

The McCalmans are another act that I've completely missed out on and I feel like I should do some catching up, since I have managed to figure out that they seem to do loads of stonking songs - and we're all always on the look out for a source of ready-made hand-picked stonking songs, aren't we?

Maybe I should start with their recent live album; or spend some time listening to the clips on their web site and choose a couple...

...thoughts? Advice? Suggestions?

Worth also mentioning that you should do some catching up on live performances, Hamish, as I believe Ian McC is going to retire next year!

IMHO one of the best albums is "Ian McCalman Singular", which is a compilation of songs WRITTEN BY Ian and sung by various other illustrious performers such as Barbara Dickson, Isla St Clair, Dick Gaughan, Sheena Wellington,Jim Malcolm, Davie Steele, Allan Taylor, etc.

Yes, and the recent album is good too.

One of my favourites is "Keepers" from 1999, which features the song "Back of the Aisler" by Derek Moffat, and songs which, although by contemporary writers, are well ensconced in the folk repertoire, such as "Back of the North Wind" and "Strong Women" by Brian McNeill, "Yellow on the Broom" (Adam McNaughtan), "Star o' the Bar" (Davie Robertson) and "Battle of Waterloo" (Jim Malcolm).

I'll second that! Nothing against the present line-up - I like them all - but Derek Moffat was a big loss, and 'Keepers' is a good memorial.
