The song "La canción de bebiendo" (The song of the drunkard) was performed by José Suarez in Brownsville, Texas, for John and Ruby Lomax during a recording trip they made in 1939. The sound file can be found at the Library of Congress site American Memory. (Sorry, direct linking to the page is error prone.) I've been unable to understand enough of the words clearly to make an effective net search, and searching on the title only seems to turn up the Suarez recording lifted by other sites, but without lyrics.

The only field notes consist of this line: "I feel a flame inside me, and I know I need a drink of mescal." I've tried searching for "flama" and "mescla", together with other words or phrases I think I hear, but to no avail.

If someone knows this song, I would appreciate the lyrics. Otherwise, could someone who speaks Spanish fluently take a stab at a transcription? Muchos gracias.

Your link doesn't work, but going to American Memory, clicking on Music, then typing name, gets it.
Cute little tune, I hope someone can help. There seems to be a gap in the transcription.

Hmmm. Good question. The notes for the Brownsville part of the trip are on this page (click). There are lyrics transcriptions for many songs, but not for "La cancion de bebiendo."

I thought lyrics were documented in one of the Lomax books, but I didn't find them.

(I fixed the link in the first post)

This could be a border song. Can't find in Mexican references I checked. There is a large collection at the University of Texas, but I don't know who to contact (there in the late 1940s).
Many were printed in Brownsville, where this one was collected.

Hmm, the link I gave in the first message still works for me. But just in case, here's a link to the American Memory home page.

Still looking, but no luck.

There's an mp3 there. Isn't there something about this song? it rings a bell, I remember a thread where it was about "siento una llama fatal que me devora". I'll do my best...

Here's what my niece and I came up to:

She'll send it to a Mexican friend of hers asking for help. I'll post whatever he'll say... when he answers.

Here is what my niece's Mexican friend sent (lyrics of the recording + one more verse which makes me quite puzzled):
