Subject: Who'll Draw a Ring Around the Moon
From: ositojuanito

Hi

Can anyone help me get the lyric for this lovely nursery rhymme type simple love song. It begins: 'Who'll draw a ring abound the moon, who will draw a line from star to star, who will sing a penny's worth of song to show how much in love we are' or something like that.

John

RING AROUND THE MOON

Who will draw a ring around the moon
Who will draw a line from star to star
Who will sing a penny's worth of song
To tell them how in love we are

I will draw a ring around the moon
I will draw a line from star to star
I will sing a penny's worth of song
To tell them how in love we are

Subject: Lyr Req: Who will draw a ring around the moon?

Help.

My mother used to sing this song as a round with my 4 siblings and me in the early 70s. She would play the tune with guitar. In the southwestern part of Virginia.

Who will draw a ring around the moon?
Who will draw a line from star to star?
Who will sing a penny's worth a tune to tell you how in love we..e are?

next verse:

I will draw a ring around the moon
I will draw a line from star to star
I will sing a penny's worth a tune to tell you how in love we are.

I'd love to know origin of this little diddy. I have no idea if there is more to it than this.
Thanks
ML

Try asking at that address. he did it on a CD and likely would know about authorship, etc.

Most sites I found with that on it had only that--the two stanzas. There was no attribution on any I saw. Sorry.

Only version I've heard was by Melanie (she of the Brand New Rollerskates). This was released on one of her albums in the early '70s.

Apparently she wrote it.

RING AROUND THE MOON
Melanie Safka (known as "Melanie")

Who will draw a ring around the moon?
Who will draw a line from star to star?
Who will sing a penny's worth of song
To tell them how in love we are?

I will draw a ring around the moon.
I will draw a line from star to star.
I will sing a penny's worth of song
To tell them how in love we are.

[From her 1971 album "Gather Me"—and on several subsequent collections.]
