Folks---Thanks for the good wishes. It has been a good and relaxing day here. And 69 has always been a favorite number of mine -- for various reasons.
So on we go into the continuing adventure. Life is just about perfect now that we have the greatest health care law anyone could ever conceive of. And   also a bill that really will eradicate all the gross excesses of the Capitalist system---. (Yep, tonight I am a happy guy. ;-)

I think there was talk, back when "below the line" was just beginning, that it should be called the "Art" section, since our favorite Art was so widely and respectfully known for his mastery of the art commonly called by the name that resembles BS.

The discussion degenerated into arguments about whether "Art" was sufficient, or if it should be "stuff like Art's," "Stuff Like Art's ART," or as someone suggested "Pale Imitations of the Master ART's Art."

When all the suggested labels got longer than a big black bullwhip, one of the elves (or drones?) declared "it's just two random letters that happen to be "B" and "S" and it doesn't stand for ANYTHING."

Of course the concept of "something" that "didn't mean anything" precipitated a horrible argument between our more serious ponderers, while another faction chose to argue with the elf/drone responsible for the statement, and the arguments and debates and apologies went on so long that by the time anyone conceded anything it was already a habit calling it the BS Section.

At least that's how I choose to remember it - even if it nevr happened at all. I'm at an age where I'm entitled to remember any d** thing I want to.

Art's a little younger, so maybe he remembers (something or other) but probably won't tell.

Anyhow, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ART. In a few years we'll probably let you tell a couple of those tales about the good old days, and may even let you stretch things a bit, should you change your habits and feel inclined to pass on anything other than your usual stark and unembelished truths.

Today I'm set to finish V.S. Naipaul's novel BEND IN THE RIVER for the 3rd time since I bought it originally some years back. Every time through it I'm more amazed by this man and his writing.
