Subject: The pleasures of collaboration From: Will Fly Date: 10 Jul 09 - 05:43 AM I've always loved trying out music collaborations, quite apart from stints in regular bands, and it's even better when a new collaborator is from the Mudcat community. I've been doing some stuff with concertina player and fellow 'Catter Alan Day over the last few weeks. It's tremendous fun and - if you're interested - you can hear the results so far at Soundclick. Any other 'Catters collaborating at the moment? And anything we can see or hear? |
Subject: RE: The pleasures of collaboration From: Peace Date: 11 Jul 09 - 02:18 AM Ron Bankley and JT Oglesby--both mudcatters. Ron put some stuff on one of olddude's songs. Again both mudcatters. |
Subject: RE: The pleasures of collaboration From: Jack Blandiver Date: 11 Jul 09 - 03:29 AM DEMDYKE! Which is a four-way collaboration between Mudcatters Sailor Ron (lyricist & narrator), Ross Campbell (music, singing, 12-string, concertinas, cittern) Rapunzel (music, singing, 6-string, 5-string) & Myself (music, singing, citeras, Black Sea Fiddle, Jew's Harps and flutes) concentrating on the spookier aspects of Lancastrian history & folklore. Look out for a performance at this year's Fylde Festival... |
Subject: RE: The pleasures of collaboration From: Will Fly Date: 11 Jul 09 - 03:36 AM Excellent photo, SO'P - and a good selection of beards as well! The Fylde Festival sounds very attractive - I have family in Lancaster and may well pop up and sample the wares... |
Subject: RE: The pleasures of collaboration From: Jack Blandiver Date: 11 Jul 09 - 03:50 AM Us Fylde Folkie blokes tend to be traditional bearded & typically hirsute; though quite naturally Rapunzel eschews the beard but lives up to her Mudcat Handle by sporting near-waist length hair. Actually do husband / wife collaborations count here? Apart from our Venereum Arvum stuff I've been quite getting into Rapunzel's new 5-string banjo directions. Have a listen to her cover of Gillian Welch's Caleb Myer HERE, the harmony for which is all my own! Quite proud of that, so I am - of my various musical achievements this year I'd have to say that harmony is my most accomplished - although the one I came with for Rock of Ages (also Gillian Welch) is pretty cool too, but we haven't recorded that yet. Watch this space! |
Subject: RE: The pleasures of collaboration From: Jack Blandiver Date: 11 Jul 09 - 04:05 AM PS - It would be wonderful to see you at The Fylde; do I feel a Mudgatherer coming on? |
Subject: RE: The pleasures of collaboration From: Will Fly Date: 11 Jul 09 - 04:14 AM Husband/wife collaborations? But of course! Yes, a Mudgather sounds quite enticing. I'm retiring from the day job at the end of August, and another musical meander in the north-west seems like a great way to celebrate the metamorphosis back to full-time musicianship. |
