Tonight Carol and I have bee3n listening to the absolutely brilliant songster from Ohio. His name was Dave Gordon, and he passed away several years ago from, I was told, a sad and rare cancer that first took his vision and ultimately his life. His songs were pure beauty---insightful--very much like the best graphic narratives. They depicted rural life brilliantly---and the interweavings of the lives of people who populated his Ohio towns. In some ways these were like Edgar Lee Masters' epitaphs on the folks' tombstones in Spoon River Anthology. Combine what I've said with a theatricality in his made songs that brought the stage productions OKLAHOMA and CAROUSEL and works of Kurt Weil to mind.

I never saw him. I only came upon his work until he'd been long gone for several years. Someone, I don't recall who, sent me some of his music on a couple of cassettes way back when. But I have always loved the little we have of Dave Gordon's music.

DOES ANYONE know of his work? Is there anyone out there from Ohio who knew Dave Gordon?   Can you tell us tales of the man and his life?

I surely would appreciate a chance to get closer to him at this late date!
