Subject: Newfoundland Folk Music on Web Radio From: Nick E Date: 11 Jul 09 - 06:02 PM I have been listening to CJYQ out of St. Johns for several years now. I was brought to it by my "Discovery" of Great Big Sea and was rewarded with new discoveries such as Ryan's Fancy, Masterless Men, The Rankin Family/Jimmy Rankin, Amelia Curan, John Allen Cameron, Shannygannock & more. They play a mix of Celtic, Maritime, Contry, Folk & Contemporary Local Artists. Most of it is just great, a few are so amazingly bad it makes me wonder why they wasted the time to record it. The local comercials are interesting as well. This station can be found here CJYQ Last week I stumbled upon another outlet, an internet only station it seems, much the same kind of music & artists but the comercials are "National" accounts like E-surance and Movie Promos, that station can be found here. Jig FM Both are worth a listen if you like Maritime & Celtic, Enjoy! I know I do. Hope the links work... |
