Ahoy me'earties!

I wouldn't usually spam a forum but i'm pretty desperate!

Us Pyrates! are playing Kendal Calling on friday 31st July an' we're trying to find a show to play on the way up on the (30th) Thursday night, i've been trying for months and haven't had much response at all! I've thankfully managed to get a show in Nuneaton on the saturday night..

Pyrates! be a 3 piece band o' sea faring band of musical marauders, specialising in songs of the sea, bawdy ballads, Irish ditties, sea shanties, drinking songs and acappella folk tunes, dressed as pirates all in the key of ARRRR!

Our website can be found at
www.pyrates.co.uk
and our myspace.
Both of which have music, pictures and videos on them!

Thanks... It's occurred to me that i should have probably tagged this as a "BS" thread...
Oh, no - it's about music, so it should stay in the music section. By the way, I enjoyed the music samples on your Website. I suppose some might question their "authenticity" because there are modern elements in the interpretation - but I enjoyed them.

Thanks Joe, glad you enjoyed our music, it's alot of fun to play

We did start out as an original authentic band, sadly that didn't work too well!
I'm aware that we have some very odd lyrics to some songs, depends where i sourced them from..

I recently aquired a copy of Sea shanties by stan hugill - which should help somewhat.. :)

I remember the newt bar, that was a good giggle, I remember...cider... lots of cider!
I have pictures and some short videos of that afternoon - some of you - if you are who i think you are that is!

we didn't go to the newt last year, we ended up playing the anchor inn wiht the exmouth shantymen (also a good laugh)
This year we're playing at the anchor again, only on the wednesday night this time :)

Difficult, since the great age of piracy didn't overlap with the time period of merchant ship shantying! "High Barbaree" (which you already play) and "The Lowlands Low" may be the only pirate-related songs in there. Then again, you could try singing some Somalian songs. Good luck!

Lol - somalian pirate songs, that could be the way forward, don't you think? :P

You make a valid point with the time scale of things, but I generalise our songs as seafaring, so it'll be okay :D

I haven't seen another thread,

I did discover Pyrates Royale some time after we formed - Annoyingly enough after I'd purchased our domain name, They've been at it since the 80's as far as I gather!

I'm in touch with a great many "pirate" bands in a varying number of styles, from folk thru to heavy metal and even rap O_o
