Subject: Memorial for Rosie Turner-Bisset From: Chris Drinkwater Date: 20 Jul 09 - 07:22 PM Hi All Rosie's family and I are holding an hour-long memorial tribute to her during the afternoon of sunday 2nd August in Sidmouth at the start of Sidmouth Folk Week. It will also see the launch of a CD, featuring Rosie singing unacompanied and playing some of her favourite tunes on melodeon and concertina which I have put together from a selection of various recording I have of her singing and playing. We are hoping to be able to have the use of a room in The Bedford Hotel for about an hour. Sidmouth Folk Week was Rosie's favourite folk festival, so it is entirely fitting that this tribute should take place there. Anyone from Mudcat attending Sidmouth is welcome to come, especially people who were unable to come to her funeral and wake earlier in the year. When I am in possession of more precise details, including the exact venue and start time, I will post them here. |

Subject: RE: Memorial for Rosie Turner-Bisset From: GUEST,Gadaffi Date: 21 Jul 09 - 10:41 AM We shall be honouring all 'absent friends' at The Volunteer, probably during the Friday lunchtime session. Rosie's name will be among them, as will George Withers and several others. If the Bedford event is after 3 p.m. on the Sunday, I will endeavour to get down from The Volly to honour Rosie's memory on this occasion. |
Subject: RE: Memorial for Rosie Turner-Bisset From: Surreysinger Date: 21 Jul 09 - 11:59 AM I'll join you in the hike down there George, all things being well (although I may have other commitments due to a friend's visit for the day) ... shame about the Volunteer on Friday (if that is the day), which I would dearly have loved to be at in view of the circs - I was only looking at one or two pics of George that I've taken at various other events over the last few years yesterday. But,that's the day I'm due to go home (unless anyone knows where I can stash my suitcase until the afternoon???) :-( |
Subject: RE: Memorial for Rosie Turner-Bisset From: GUEST,Paddy Date: 11 May 10 - 02:37 AM Dear Chris and Family I was devastated to hear of Rosie's death. I had gotten to know her when she visited Australia and Sydney a couple of times and one time when I stayed with her in Watford. I have only just found out as I was planning to go to the European Education Conference later this year, decided to 'google' Rosie to see where she was and to see if she was going to be attending so that we could catch up. I have very fond memories of Rosie, her hospitality and her generous spirit. My sympathy goes to Harriet and to Ellie and to her extended family. The last time I saw her in Sydney she stayed with us, and Harriet had just started university in Aberdeen. I would love to hear back from someone as this sounds so awfully unreal. Margaret |
