OK, so having found the beauty of Tam's voice (see Virginia Tam's Voice thread) I notice that alongside all the deeply supportive posts about Tam, runs a similar line of thought about the voice of 'Crow Sister'.

I read that she *had* a Myspace page, and some videos but they're no longer around, so....does anyone know where I *can* actually get to listen to her voice online? (CS, are you listening! - big grin)

I've a feeling that I'm about to be stunned again!

Hi Lizzie... I blinked and made a double take when I saw this! Are you in the toe curling business?

Yeah, I did have a MySpace but the sound quality really bugged me, so I shut it down. I keep thinking I might stick another one up.. But I'd like to fix the crappy noise thing. I've considered YouTube before, but not too comfy with cameras etc. If I change my mind, I'll ask Fisheye to put summat up for me, as he's the resident filmaker (he did Tams vids) and has a proper posh mike!

Err, so in answer, I reckon you'll have to come to Kent then... :-)

They're a lovely crowd and very warm, and as a relative newcomer to folk singing, I've received a lot of encouragement from them too as you've seen from the comments posted.
But as Pierre say's elsewhere, it's actually a group of people with a *lot* of talented amateurs and pro/semi-pro performers.

John Barden is a bit of a 'local hero' and I think you'd love 'Marks in the Grass', a very personal song: initially a poem written by traveller Romanyman with music by JB:
Marks in the Grass, care of 'Fisheye'
Richard Bridge's daughter is quite amazing too. But I don't think there's anything of her on online either - at least not folk stylee.

Toe curling business? :0)

Noooooooo....xx

Just in the business of knowing great music when I hear it, CS, that's all, and always eager to hear more. So, after all those lovely comments in Tam's thread, about you as well, I'm intrigued, that's all.

Thanks for the link to John's song.

I've heard it already, but isn't it GREAT! I'm going to write about it soon, just not had the time yet, as I need to do it justice..and I'm trying to do a 1001 things at present..but I'm on the case of 'Marks in the Grass'.

It's wonderful!

And now...back to you and your voice....

(Good diversionary tactics though) ;0)

To hear my daughter's rock band when she was just 14 or 15 (she wrote a large share of the lyrics and some of the melodies too, but the full arrangements were very much all of the band) you can go to myspace and search for "Youngtorniquet".

Fisheye's Rode is a truly wonderful mic!

All the best, Irene x

So sorry Surreysinger, my PM box is in a muddle! Thought I'd replied already! No, won't be at Sidders this year after all. Looks like I'll be going camping with my fella instead - if we're both fit for it. He's got Swine Flu at the mo, so I expect I'll get it next. Still got a few folk things planned, though not as much as I was initially intending.

As for singing, yes I think practice and getting out has improved my delivery a fair bit since I started last year. Confidence probably. Still not hot on the interpretation side though.. But I'm sure it'll come.

Anyway, I'll PM you inabit & say more :-)

Crow Sister - as an aside, the version of 'Marks in the Grass' that was shot by Fisheye was the first outing for that song, and was a 'Work in progress'. The finished article was taken on a Mobile Phone by Kev the Cloggs in the back garden of The Nags Head at Lower Stoke in Kent, and I just can't believe how well it came out. Here it is

Crows sister has a great voice and so has Rachael Bridge and VT.
I love to hear all three of them do something together,
(Apart from the Chorus of Ride On?)Great stuff.

Actually, right here Lizzie :)   ***Waves***
I just got me a MySpace sorted this weekend, without nasty noise interference stuff either. I'd rather have a YouTube channel (as MySpace Music is more for professional bands than amateurs) but I don't have gizmo for filming - while I *do* have a neat little sound gizmo, which is top.

Anyone on Mudcat want to friend me? As I'm a bit of a billy no mates right now..

Whoooaaa! I completely missed this thread while I was in Mostamazingland (Scotland) 0n holiday.

Love Sister's deflection of attention. See I taught you well.

Yep the Crow sister not only has an astonishing voice, her vocal presentation is so .....unique.

I am so happy there are recordings back up. As soon as TSO gets off the phone with his Mum, I will have a listen.

Mostamazingland - I could live there, but I'd miss classic English woodland. Going camping there next Spring once again - timed to avoid evil killer mozzies of course! I love Inverness, and Lake Affric. My fella's half Scottish..

Ahhh the loveliness. Make way for a bit of evangelising.

The people must hear. Cleanly done, no over production, rendering of traditional songs by a unique yet fresh voice.

Praise be to the Sister. Folk (music) salvation is at hand.

How's that toe curling now?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Crow Sister is brilliant. Brian Peters says so too, and both he and I know good when we hear it. More power to your elbow.

"....I overheard a young woman, converse with Reynardine......and he smiled as he looked upon her......"

He was smiling because she'd been singing as she came along the lane....and Old Reynardine was lost in the beauty of her voice...vowing to reform his ways forevermore, if she promised to never stop singing to him.....

Crow Sister's Myspace

......and the Crow Sister Maiden smiled...then filled the air with a voice as pure and musical as the clear, sparkling water that filled the magical brook that had begun to flow around Reynardine's castle....

And up in the tree sat Alison Gross, green with envy that the Crow Sister Maiden had stolen away Reynardine, her former accomplice in Evil, now reduced to a Worshipping Angel....

WHAT can I say, CS??????

Apart from......Bloody WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!

Lollers LC, you don't half make me laff with your style! ;-)
Ta for all the nice words here anyhoo, & for folks friending too.

I wonder what old Reynardine was getting up to, up there in his mountain castle? I used the earlier "shining eyes" lyric that Lloyd came up with rather than the usual one. I mean, would you honestly follow some man's brilliantly glowing teeth throughout the night? Mmmm.. nope? Me neither. Especially as they hadn't even invented fang whitening toothpaste back in the olden days, so Rey probably brushed his teeth in ground-up maidens or something.. Ooee, just imagine the morning breath.

snork ground up maidens...

See I tol you guys. she is good, damn good. And funny too. If she increased her repertoire to the ribald and bawdy, she could keep an audience riveted for hours.

So if you know any songs that you think would fit with her voice, please list them here.

muhahahaha

JC - I've not explored YouTube further yet as I haven't made up any visuals to add to the vocals. But maybe I aughta put together some photo collages. YouTube is much more appealing to me than MySpace in many respects, as a very informal, creative and ordinary 'folk' community for anyone who fancies just having a go - if I do sort anything out on Tubey, I'll update this thread.
