Subject: RE: Dún Laoghaire/Dublin 2-8August What's On From: Gulliver Date: 24 Jul 09 - 08:38 AM A few places outside Dún Laoghaire, but not too far away. There used to be sessions in the Punchbowl, just past Blackrock (website http://www.theoldpunchbowl.com/ ).There is, or used to be, a session on Wednesday nights, and maybe other nights, in the Blue Light, at the foot of the Dublin mountains - see here for details. Touristy, and not a session (unless you start one yourself - it's been done!) is Johnny Fox's, but good food (IMHO), web site http://www.jfp.ie/. There's an open session starts at 1 pm Sundays in O'Donogue's, Merrion Row, bus (45?) to Mount Street - ask for Victor or Paul. I've often brought visitors to the Brazen Head in Dublin, not a session but a nice place to listen to the music on Sunday afternoons. As mentioned, there are a number of other places around Dublin where locals meet, like the Portobello Sundays at 6, but might be difficult to get to. The Bray singers' session is very good but on the third Saturday of the month. Don |

Subject: RE: Dún Laoghaire/Dublin 2-8August What's On From: Declan Date: 24 Jul 09 - 02:30 AM Howth singing circle and An Goilin are hosting a one-off singing afternoon at the Sea Angling club in Howth from 3-6pm on Saturday 8th. Howth is 30-40 minutes away by DART (local train service) from Dun Laoghaire. I know this is the day you are leaving, but it might be a good way to finish off your visit, provided it fits in with your travel arrangements. I'm going to be away that week myself. I don't think the Goilin club meets during the summer, but it might be worth getting in touch as they may have details on other events. |

Subject: Dún Laoghaire/Dublin 2-8August What's On From: GeoffLawes Date: 23 Jul 09 - 05:11 PM We are staying in Dún Laoghaire from 2nd to the 8th August. We would like to find an event where we could sing and hear some good traditional singing. I have trawled the net but to no avail. Can anyone in the Dublin area suggest anything? |
