Subject: RE: The Pentangle, Ever Again? From: Busy Lizzy Date: 26 Jul 09 - 12:36 PM I looked into booking them for MFAB a year or so ago - VERY EXPENSIVE!! In comparison with similar bands I was looking at at the time if you know what I mean! Maybe the bigger festivals can afford that! But they are on my list for a future event! They come together specially for each booking as I understand it. Or was told at the time. Various members of the band are around doing other things! http://www.myspace.com/pentangle |

Subject: RE: The Pentangle, Ever Again? From: Roughyed Date: 26 Jul 09 - 03:05 PM I've seen them on the bill somewhere recently as Jacqui McShees Pentangle but I can't think where. |
Subject: RE: The Pentangle, Ever Again? From: Roughyed Date: 26 Jul 09 - 03:08 PM I've just googled it and the only connection between the personnel of Pentangle and Jacqui McShee's Pentangle appears to be the said Ms McShee |
Subject: RE: The Pentangle, Ever Again? From: GUEST,richd Date: 26 Jul 09 - 04:14 PM Saw the original line up last year at the Greeenman Festival. The orignal line up did a sizable tour. They were pretty poor. I wouldn't bother to see them again. Both Jansch and Renbourn are much better on their own these days |
Subject: RE: The Pentangle, Ever Again? From: GUEST,Kev Boyd Date: 26 Jul 09 - 05:32 PM This is how I understand the situation: The original Pentangle got back together in the early 80s, gigged for a while, shed a few members, gigged some more and eventually packed up in the mid-90s. Jacqui McShee's Pentangle were formed shortly after and bear nor relation to the original band except for McShee's presence. The original lineup got together for a one-off performance at the 2007 Folk Awards which was followed by a UK theatre tour in July 2008. At the time there were mixed signals on the question of future gigs but they haven't performed together since. Jacqui McShee's Pentangle continue to perform. Contrary to richd's post above, the 2008 Pentangle gigs were, by all accounts, pretty impressive, as suggested by this review. |
Subject: RE: The Pentangle, Ever Again? From: Vin2 Date: 27 Jul 09 - 08:45 AM I saw em last year at the Palace in Manchester and they were excellent. Hope they do get back together for another tour soon. Might see if the newly re-furbished Band On The Wall in Manchester will book em! |
Subject: RE: The Pentangle, Ever Again? From: GUEST,Sir roger at work Date: 27 Jul 09 - 08:48 AM I remember turning on John Peel's top Gear way back when and hearing a Bert Jansch song being performed live by a band - turned out that was the first broadcast by Pentangle. Saw them a little bit later at the Manchester Free Trade Hall - awsome. Can't see that a version of Pentangle without Jansch or Renbourn could reasonably be called Pentangle at all. r |
Subject: RE: The Pentangle, Ever Again? From: GUEST,Doc John Date: 27 Jul 09 - 09:48 AM I saw Jacqui McShee (vcl.) with John Renbourne (occ.vcl. & guit.) a while back now. They were really outstanding. Not need for bass, drums etc at all. To me Ms MacShee's truly beautiful voice is marred by the unnecessary backing. Are there any recordings of her singing unnaccompanied or with guitar only? |
