Subject: Lyr Req: Thomas Moran's Farewell Lovely Annie From: Roberto Date: 28 Jul 09 - 05:01 AM I'd like to get the exact text of Thomas Moran's recording of Farewell Lovely Nancy/Farewell Nancy, titled Farewell Lovely Annie in Peter Kennedy's collection Thomas Moran, Leitrim Ballad Singer. Please, help. R Here is what I can get, and what I can not (main problems in the third, fourth, fifth stanza): Farewell Nancy (Farewell, Lovely Annie) Thomas Moran Fare the well, lovely Annie, I am now going for to leave you Unto the West Indies my course for to steer And I know very well my long absence will grieve you But my love, I'll return in the spring of the year Oh, speak not of leaving me here, lovely Willie Oh, don't speak not of leaving me here to the floor For it is your duty I do so admire And my poor heart will break if I ne'er see you more Dressed up like a sailor, my love I'll go with you In the midst of your trouble I'll be your dear friend In the cold stormy weather when the high winds are blowing Oh, me love, I'll be ready your (...) No, your neat little finger wouldn't handle our clothing Nor your (...) frame our decks would not go And the cold stormy weather you're never enduring Therefore, lovely Annie, to the seas do not go Young Willie set sailing, lovely Annie kept (?) be waiting And the tears from the eyes like the fountains do flow And her lily white fingers on the shore she kept wringing Saying – Me poor heart will break if I ne'er see you more |
