I have been meaning to recommend this pub for its Folk night for ages or is it maybe Im getting withdrawal symptoms having not been there for ages. Every Tuesday night there is a great gathering of singers /musicians poets and Shanties.

The gatherings are always good and the local folks and bar staff are very friendly. Its located in the Old town just up the hill from the Fisherman's Huts so if you live in Hastings or just like me pass through Hastings every now and again then pop in on a Tuesday for the folk night starts about 8.00.Tuesdays.
On Wednesdays there a Bluegrass session?

Shurley shome mishtake? There is only one Stag that I know of, up the hill from the net sheds in Old Town, Hastings... not three of them.

But it is a damned fine pub all the same!

Net Shops?
That's what some people I know who were born and have lived their entire lives in Hastings call them.

Hi Backwoodsman
Well us Cockney Londoners who used to pop down to Hastings has children for the day or for a weeks holiday were given strict instructions by our parents before heading off on our own to the amusements or the caves on the cliff side.

Be back at 1 o'clock for your dinner. we will meet you at the Fisherman's Huts.

Clearly I understand the locals have there own time honored names for the huts but thats what my late mother called them and i am afraid the name Fisherman's huts has stuck.

Getting back to folk music in pubs in Hastings The Standard down on the sea-front which adjoins the old town is another favorite place of mine for music I have had many a recent session in there?

The last time I was up The Stag there were two young lassies there who played the Penny whistle,s in duet the likes of which I do not think I have heard the equal. very talented.

Hi Pierre,
My connection is through my first wife's family, who hailed from Hastings, they lived along The Ridge near The Harrow, so I spent a lot of holidays and weekends there over a 25-year period. But none at all since 1995 when we went our separate ways.
Last time I was there I had an uproarious time belting a few songs out in The Adelaide, and getting quite severely intoxicated (as I almost remember). Does anything happen there now?
Another favourite watering-hole was The Dolphin, towards Rock-a-Nore, pretty much across from the Net/Fishermen's Shops/Sheds/Huts/Wotsits. No music then, but the beer worked like a charm!
I'd love to re-visit and get around the music venues, but the current Lady Backwoods isn't so inclined (perhaps understandably!)   :-)
Cheers,
BWM

Backwoodsman I merely go where the music is there are three pubs so far which I visit the above two mentioned and if you go up to St Crescent which is a serious of back streets off of the Ridge there a pub called the Angel they have a large room upstairs which is full of old guitars and they also have a drum kit on a Wednesday night you would be invited to go up to the room where all the local musicians meet and you can join in what they call a jam night i have only been twice and its a great night you can do you own stuff when it comes to your turn and the other folks join in and seriously back you up both musically and vocally. In regards to the Adelaide if Im right and it was that little rather strange pub ajoining the old town high street I believe it shut down a few years back. I may be wrong but the name tends to ring a bell with me from somewhere in my past. I sure someone on here will be happy to confirm this ever way.
Regards to all Pierre.

Cheers Pierre. The Adelaide was indeed a 'rather strange pub'! But Hastings had/has quite a few of those! :-)

I'm here Pierre - have been away for a while in Sidmouth and have only just spotted this thread!!! The Adelaide is indeed closed and I believe is looking for a new owner!!! Meant to go to the Stag this week but didn't get round to it. Are you off any Tuesdays for the rest of August? I can probably put you up if you want to pop down!!
