Subject: RE: Suggestions for British Folk Fest trip From: Ross Campbell Date: 31 Jul 09 - 08:23 PM http://www.fylde-folk-festival.com/ Fylde Festival takes place 4th, 5th & 6th September 2009 in Fleetwood, Lancashire, just north of Blackpool, the week-end after the August Bank Holiday, with linked events running from Bank Holiday Sunday 30th August. Stena Line runs a thrice-daily passenger/freight service from Larne to Fleetwood. Various services run to Liverpool, about fifty miles south. Plenty of accommodation (but book early, or be prepared to travel up from Blackpool every day). Camping and caravan sites too. The following week-end (12th & 13th September) has We Do Like to be Beside the Sea in Morecambe, about thirty miles away. Ross |

Subject: RE: Suggestions for British Folk Fest trip From: Maryrrf Date: 30 Jul 09 - 08:10 PM Girvan, in Scotland. You can take the ferry to Stranraer from Belfast and it's a short drive to Girvan. Very friendly, welcoming, smallish but not too small with lots of sessions and singarounds. Accommodation is reasonably priced (but best to book early) and they have great pubs and chippies. |

Subject: RE: Suggestions for British Folk Fest trip From: Emma B Date: 30 Jul 09 - 06:45 PM For a small friendly festival with lots of singing and great acoustics - not to mention a fantastic beer festival and good pubs Alcester, close to Stratford-on-Avon (but far enough away from tourists:) ) |
Subject: RE: Suggestions for British Folk Fest trip From: Richard Bridge Date: 30 Jul 09 - 06:40 PM For item 2 I have not yet been to Whitby or Sidmouth but I think they are the muttly nuttlys. Before it vanished Miskin was the No 1. for items 1 and 2. |
Subject: Suggestions for British Folk Fest trip From: Frank_Finn Date: 30 Jul 09 - 06:05 PM Hi. We are thinking of organising a group of singers and perhaps musicians for a trip to a folk festival in Britain late 2009 or 201O. Sligo Traditional Singers and friends would be looking for: 1. Friendly festival (size unimportant!) 2. Lots of singing sessions 3. Good pub scene with plenty of throat lubrication 4. Nearby accommodation at a fairly reasonable rate. 5. We will be either flying or coming by ferry, so distance to ferryport or airport may be an issue. All suggestions welcome |
