Indeed, and both grab an opportunity when it arises, whether it's in the middle of the summer season or not!

And Jeff is doing a song accompaniment workshop and evening performance (see this thread for booking details ) for the Lewes Saturday Folk Club on Saturday 19th. September, proving yet again that both Shammick and The Room In The Elephant have impeccable taste in workshop leaders.

I'll be back in the USA by then, but if you have a chance to go - take it! Jeff is a seriously great performer who I have been priviledged to see at a local pub singaround in Portsmouth NH.

Songs Across the Pond workshop on Saturday 22nd August in Combe Martin, N. Devon. Jeff Warner, who is the guest artist at the evening concert, will be leading a workshop during the day which will look at songs from the USA, and those which have travelled across the Atlantic – mainly from the British Isles to the States, but to some extent the other way, as well.

Jeff Warner comes from the U.S.A., and is a skilled and entertaining exponent of traditional American song in all its diversity, with a deep understanding and knowledge of his material (plus a banjo and a concertina) – offered with humour and irresistible choruses. His parents, Frank and Anne Warner, were prolific collectors of songs. Jeff explores those traditions in the morning and, after lunch, is joined by Tom & Barbara Brown and together they will explore songs that have crossed the Atlantic, from classic ballads to vaudeville, from lyrical narrative to minstrelsy.

This will be fascinating and delightful day for anyone interested in the traditional song of two nations divided by a common language.

The workshop costs just £15 for the day (£12 to members of Shammick Acoustic), and the booking form can be printed off from the club's website, or ring 01271 882366 to receive one by post (before Thursday next as no-one will be here to send it after that!).

Good and reasonably priced meals are available at the Pack o' Cards between the workshop and the evening concert, and if you're coming from a distance, B&B is also available there – go to the Pack's website.

Barbara
