!!!!!?????????!!!!!!!!!!!

[google for news & youtube links..]

so then,
imagine the possibilities for this fine country roots folk R'n'B superstar supergroup..

Kev, Russell Crowe, Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Johnny Depp..

.. maybe even Keanu Reeves on bass
now he's well in his 40's
and possibly outgrown grunge..

crikey, the roster of Hollywood vanity project touring bands & CD releases
is too much to keep track of..

Even [though its a bit of a secret] Ray Winston has a pretty good singing voice..

That doesn't surprise me. I think it's fairly well known that talented people tend to have multiple talents.

In my opinion, Ronny Cox is still the best of the actors/musicians crowd. A close second is Kevin Bacon.

Wateworld was supposed to be a serious movie about Global Warming, but read what Allmovie Guide has to say:

"The story was filmed in Hawaii, using several artificial islands, and is set in an apocalyptic future, after global warming has melted the polar ice caps and flooded civilization. The Mariner (Costner) is one of the human beings who has adapted by growing gills. The survivalist lives on a boat on which he is growing a precious tomato plant. He tries to sell the plant and its dirt to the residents of an artificial island built of industrial waste. They imprison him when they discover that he's a mutant with gills. But the island is attacked by the Smokers, a group of oil-guzzling raiders on jet skis headed by the Deacon (Dennis Hopper). The Mariner escapes with Helen (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and her daughter Enola (Tina Majorino). Back at sea, the Smokers repeatedly attack, using planes and boats, until they kidnap Enola. Enola's back is tattooed with a map showing how to get to Dryland, the last unflooded area on Earth. But Deacon, who needs to get to Dryland to replenish the Smokers' oil supply, can't immediately decipher it. "

nuff sed

It was a good movie... well, could have been... without the wierd and sensational garbage meant to try to keep you in your seat for three years and sell more popcorn.

What is it about some movies that go on and on and...??

"Waterworld" was visual stunning. The shots of that huge catamaran cutting through the water were terrific. It had a great leading lady, an over-the-top villain ( played beautifully by Dennis Hopper, and Kevin was rock solid. However, knowing what we know now, they could have turned into a musical with Kevin singing " A Life on the Ocean Waves" and other such appropriate ditties.

Gee. I've seen that movie- I tend not to remember things by title. I too thought the premise was arresting but the vision lacked. Or maybe it was the skill that lacked.

(Has anyone here read "The Road"?

I thought Waterworld was reasonably okay. Not a classic, but respectable. It was a later Kevin Costner film, "The Postman" that really qualified for most, if not all of the negative criticism it got.

Waterworld was OK but it should have had ' The Trumpet Hornpipe ' as it theme tune.

Waterworld and The Postman had the same plot: lone hero vs. bad guy plus army in post-apocalyptic world, with some love interest thrown into the bargain (Jean Tripplehorn/Olivia Williams -- OK Kevin, chose between the two. Now, THAT would be a contest!). Both were also rather long (an understatement!).

And for unlikely singing on the boat, you still can't beat Kirk Douglas' Got a Whale of a Tale in Disney's "20,000 Under the Sea."

Ebbie - I've read the road. I'm looking forward to the movie even tho the releash date has been pushed back. It WON"T be the "feel good movie of the year"

And by the way - while introducing a segment on Pete Seeger on the CBS Sunday Morning show yesterday - host Charles Osgood was frailing a Vega long neck banjo. I didn't know he could play.

Ron says "In my opinion, Ronny Cox is still the best of the actors/musicians crowd. A close second is Kevin Bacon."

I'd cast my vote for Zooey Deschanel. Her music with M. Ward is First Rate. She and Him You can hear her sing Why Do You Let Me Stay Here on the front page. Actually, I should mention that it's the ONLY page. This has to be the simplest musical website ever.

You could also include Steve Martin in the banjo playing crowd. He's got a relatively new album out, The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo. It is also First Rate.

Two other banjo boys - Jerry Van Dyke and George Segal, who did an album with the Canadian Brass, of all people, some time ago.

"That doesn't surprise me. I think it's fairly well known that talented people tend to have multiple talents."

Why not? There are many examples of people who have been successful as singers and as actors. Before dismissing every example of someone who has "made it" first in acting and them tried their hand at music, think about those who were singers first and then went on to stage and/or screen.

Whatever you think of his politics, Burl Ives was an important popularizer of folk music who went on to be a terrific actor ~ his performance as Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is just superb.

Last night, I spotted the name of Hamilton Camp in the closing credits of a movie on TCM ~ probably Heaven Can Wait, but I'm not sure. He was a fairly prominent figure in the '60s "Folf Scare, at about the same time that Alan Arkin was singing with one of the popular folk quartets or trios of that era before going on to greater success in Hollywood.

Is comedian Robert Klein a better blues harmonica player than actor Bruce Willis? Seems that way, but maybe not. He's less controversial and more likeable, but perhaps only because he doesn't seem to take himself nearly so seriously...

Kevin Costner probably sings better than he talks. No matter what role he plays, he opens his mouth and California comes out. Robin Hood from Redondo Beach. Dances-with-Wilshire Boulevard. Wyatt "Irvine" Earp.

Sorry if it's been said, but his character liked American country music in The Bodyguard movie, I recall.

Waterworld wasn't as bad as some of the critics made out - and KC wasn't too bad it in either.

I don't see any reason for surprise when actors or musicians do other things. All that matters at the end of the day is whether these other things are any good or not. I was once at a Van Morrison concert in Brighton. After the interval, the band re-assembled on stage, and a guy with long hair and hefting a Strat walked out on to the stage. "Wha? Is that Richard Gere?" "Yup - Richard Gere." Van didn't seem to bother about him too much, and he wasn't musically very memorable when playing with the band. So Gere - as it happens - didn't cut it on that occasion. Perhaps Costner will.
