Please note:
Due to illness, Mike Seeger will not be able to attend the Berkeley Oldtime Music Convention as scheduled.  He has been battling leukemia for a number of years and now has developed an unusually aggressive cancer.  He is home with his family and is receiving hospice care.

We are saddened by the news. Mike holds a special place in BOTMC history - he is a hero to all of us, and he has attended the BOTMC several times, both as a solo performer and as part of the New Lost City Ramblers, and the liner notes of his "Berkeley Farms" LP on Folkways documented the original Berkeley Old Time Fiddlers Convention from the 1960's that inspired the BOTMC.
(see hhttp://www.folkways.si.edu/albumdetails.aspx?itemid=1953 )

We are proud and excited to have Alice Gerrard coming to the BOTMC. Alice is best known for her groundbreaking collaboration with Appalachian singer Hazel Dickens during the 1960s and '70s, and has worked closely with other old-time music giants including Tommy Jarrell, Enoch Rutherford, Otis Burris, Luther Davis and Matokie Slaughter. She's appeared on more than 20 albums and has produced and/or written liner notes for a dozen more. In 1987, Alice founded the Old-Time Herald, and served as editor-in-chief from 1987 til 2003.  She tours with Tom Sauber and Brad Leftwich (as Tom Brad & Alice); when she can, she performs with the Herald Angels and the Harmony Sisters, and very occasionally with Hazel Dickens.

She will perform at the Freight on Thursday night, Sept. 10. She will also participate in the panel discussion at UC Berkeley on Friday afternoon Sept. 11, and will teach an oldtime fiddle Galax-style workshop on Sunday afternoon Sept. 13.
