Subject: thirteen original colonies From: ritaj54@aol.com Date: 15 Jul 99 - 11:35 AM I am a a teacher, and I vaguely remember a song from a long time ago--probably the 60's. I thought it was called "The Thirteen Original Colonies," but I can't seem to find it by searching. What's really strange is it seems that I remember Pat Boone (of all people) singing it! I remember only the tiniest phrases such as parts where the colonies are named and a refrain...the thirteen original colonies. Well, if anyone knows anything about this song or where I might find it, please let me know. Thank you. |
Subject: RE: thirteen original colonies From: emily rain Date: 15 Jul 99 - 04:09 PM hmm. best i can do is:
fifty nifty u-nited states from then it names all fifty states in alphabetical order (which has come in very handy for me later in life, as music is the ultimate mnemonic (if indeed that's how you spell that word)). but that's not the song you're looking for, is it? |
Subject: RE: thirteen original colonies From: Susan A-R Date: 16 Jul 99 - 12:04 AM Along similar lines, just heard a wonderful song, started in the 1860s or so, listing all of the presidents. It's on a collection of Oscal Brand material , believe it's a compilation of presidential campaign songs. The song has been adapted, and the recording I heard brings us right up to Clinton. Susan |
Subject: RE: thirteen original colonies From: gargoyle Date: 16 Jul 99 - 12:35 AM Yes....it has been posted in the threads....under 50/Fifty Nifty United States....
After begging and pleading, and crawling repeatedly through the forum Janet A. (East Coast) provided a tape of her singing..... which resulted in a transcription..... and elementry school children singing it.....(A tape is still owed to her) Keep the thread fresh until the weekend I will post it. (The midi version for the kids performance has too many tracks for postings.

Subject: RE: thirteen original colonies From: Wally Macnow Date: 17 Jul 99 - 06:17 AM The Smithsonian recently released Presidential Campaign Songs, 1789-1996 by Oscar Brand. It has songs releated to each president from Washington through Clinton plus a couple of songs about multiple presidents. Darn good historical stuff.

Subject: RE: thirteen original colonies From: Amos Date: 17 Dec 08 - 12:54 PM There's a sort of rock version for grade school children on this site. "Virginia Massachusetts New York (Was New Amsterdam) Maryland Rhode Island Connecticut Delaware (Was New Sweden) New Hampshire North Carolina South Carolina New Jersey Pennsylvania Georgia That's the Thirteen Original Colonies!" It's kind of a mindless song for memorization only. The "FIfty Nifty" Ray Charles song can be heard at: http://www.ilovewavs.com/Holidays/July4/Fifty%20Nifty%20United%20States%20-%20School%20House%20Rock.wav. A A |
