Subject: RE: NYC Irish Singers' Session Thurs 8/6/09 From: Zhenya Date: 06 Aug 09 - 02:49 PM David, No unfortunately we just meet monthly. It's usually the first Thursday of each month, unless holidays or some other competing event intervenes. Even then, if we pick an alternate date, it's usually early in the month. There are some weekly Irish tune sessions in the area which also have some singing, although they tend to be more tunes than songs. There are also various concerts and workshops around, although I don't know of anything right now that's at the end of September. If you want any more details about the other events, though, post again or send a pm and let me know the specific dates and what kinds of other musical events might interest you. fretless - It's a busy bar, with various activities scheduled, and we took whatever slot we could get! We sometimes stay later if no one is immediately using the space. It's hard to find places to meet up in NY because many of us have small apartments and people are spread out over a wide area. In terms of timing, we also have to consider people's work schedules, and the fact that many people don't live in Manhattan itself, and have long commutes home. |

Boy, do I miss the good ol' days at the Eagle Tavern on 14th Street when the sessions STARTED around 9 and and we dragged the last bodies out of the tavern's back room anytime between 2 and 4 AM. |

Subject: NYC Irish Singers' Session Thurs 8/6/09 From: Zhenya Date: 05 Aug 09 - 08:28 PM Just a reminder - Tomorrow evening is the next meeting of the NYC Irish Singers' Session. Location: Paddy Reilly's Pub Corner of E. 29 St at Second Avenue Manhattan The official starting time is 6:30, when people meet up to chat a bit, and the actual singing usually gets started about 6:45 or a bit later. We usually end around 9:00. We do a lot of Irish traditional songs, as well as some Scottish, Appalachian, and other traditional music. It's a very friendly group, and all are welcome to join in with a song or just come to listen. |
