From: The Shambles Date: 15 Jul 99 - 04:20 PM Detailed HERE, Songs For Young And Old, is a case where a song has been used for propaganda purposes. What are you views on this and are there other examples of songs and tunes, being used like this, for other than their original purpose? |

Subject: RE: Songs used for other than original purpose. From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 16 Jul 99 - 12:36 AM Sham, I find it distressing, all right--it's an anti-war song, of course. And of course yesterday's terrorists are today's heroes: the KLA, on the US list of terrorist organizations and major supplier of illegal drugs to Europe. The use in movies doesn't bother me--I think the songs are generally treated with respect and have a narrative purpose: that is, of course, if the film makers are paying the appropriate royalties. I was also kind of bugged by the Statue of Liberty stepping of her pedestal and wading in the channel to look at a car--to the tune of "Simple Gifts." --seed |
