We're linked up with Paul through Myspace, and he's just put up a message that he is going to be getting all his old vinyl albums transferred to CD.

Paul retired from touring many years ago, but hopefully this might rekindle an interest in his songs, some of which are still performed around clubs and festivals.

His songs are very good IMHO.

Ripple away....Turn a blind eye....Lose myself in you....the list goes on

Well constructed and he had a special guitar style which I love to this day.

I can dream that the Sunray Folk Club may one day attract him back......

I think Paul retired merely because of the fact that he was unable to make a living with his songs, trying to go on the road with a band being the final straw. We popped in to see him in Kendal a few years back and he was a qualified carpenter and woodturner making pub games.

Just found today that Paul's song 'Lose myself in You' has been going round in my mind. Does anyone have the complete lyrics? You know what it's like when a half remembered song takes up lodging in your mind. You can't rest until you've tracked it down!
Thank you

Lose Myself in You

1. Though I may be sure of the places I have been,
Or show no hesitation to the future sight unseen;
Though I may seem certain of the ground on which I stand,
Still I lose myself in you when you are close at hand

Yes I lose myself in you
Every time I see you and I lose myself in you,
Whenever you are near;
And I lose myself in you
When in conversation people mention you by name
And I am close enough to hear;
And it doesn't really matter that some of them will see
That I lose myself in you
When you lose yourself in me

2. Memories will slip and fade, yet occasionally by chance
May crowd and overcome me in a tumbling avalanche
But even when confusion seems to bury every plan
I can lose myself in you -you always understand

chorus

3. Let's take the path together as far as we can go
The far horizon beckons - the winds of change do blow
You can steady my impatience - for you already know
That I'll lose myself in you until you let me go

chorus

Acorn4, thank you so much. It always amazes me how quickly people answer requests on mudcat. It must be 20 years since I have seen Paul sing. I'd like to think he might yet be tempted out again. So many good songs not getting heard enough anymore.

He has so many good songs. I do not understand why so many people sing " gold" but use the wrong tune.

Would love to see him perform again.

Steve Turner still performs 'Farewell to the Gold', and plays the concertina accompaniment that Paul wrote for him when he needed an accompanist to record...

According to Steve, Paul knew almost nothing about the English concertina when he wrote it, but he has never been able to improve on Paul's arrangement.

If Paul is serious about putting out his back catalogue on CD, then it would make my partner really happy. (And would solve my Birthday/Christmas present problem!!)

I ripped one of my old albums of his into my iTunes last month, and funnily enough, on the train back from London yesterday, gave it a good listening to.

Excellent singer / songwriter. I last saw him when a local club booked Nic Jones just before his accident, and Paul came with him and did a floor turn.

Actually, Paul was making a living on the road but then he also had a car accident, similar to Nic Jones.
His Martin guitar was badly damaged and also his hand - he was unable to play for some time and that's when he stopped playing.
Paul was a school teacher in New Zealand but I guess he didn't want to go back to teaching after the accident so he took up woodwork instead.
By the way, 27 Nov is Paul's birthday.

Paul performed at Ryedale Folk festival, with some old and some new songs. He was most excellent.

Good to known Paul is out performing again. Just looked at earlier posting and saw lyrics to Lose Myself in You - how could i forget I used to perform that song, first thing tonite I will revisit, sing to my wife for Birthday tonight.

A major influence on my songwriting - biggest compliment ever came when he wished he had written song I performed, 'Rainbow'. In a way he did.

Still do Ripple Away regularly - everyone loves it, very personal just now as my girls drift away - ' I need a new experience to take an interest in '.

Hope he can make it to the sunny south.

Just checked the website - beautifully crafted traditional games indeed. I do hope that Paul has a market for these. So many pubs have gone over to big t.v. Sky Sports or worse closed down altogether. And the draconian licensing legislation has all but killed off live music. I wonder if Paul has thought of making jig dolls?
