Subject: RE: Tech: youtube upload problems From: Phil Cooper Date: 11 Aug 09 - 04:10 PM I use the Magix pro movie program and put the files into mpg (mpeg, or mp4 format) it takes about an hour to upload a standard song, but it works for me. They've stayed posted so far. You can search for them by putting tradfolky1 in the youtube search. |
Subject: RE: Tech: youtube upload problems From: meself Date: 11 Aug 09 - 10:49 AM Okay, I've think we've got it. Had to save the recording to the "Windows Movie" program, make it into a "movie", save it, copy(?) the "movie" onto the "storyboard", "publish" the movie (i.e., save it somewhere outside of "Windows Movie" in the form of a file compatible with youtube - we used .wmv), then upload the file to youtube .... It's a fairly quick and easy process - but, as with so many computer/internet activities, those brilliant technicians in control have made it almost impossible for ordinary mortals (note: that excludes teenagers) to discover. It feels like a great spiritual quest: on the basis of a few obscure hints and riddles, you must work your way through a series of trials that test your mettle; if you succeed, some simple truth that was under your nose the whole time will be revealed. Having said that - my clip hasn't shown up yet in a youtube search .... |

Subject: RE: Tech: youtube upload problems From: Will Fly Date: 10 Aug 09 - 01:35 PM It's always better to edit a movie before uploading if you have the facility, but YouTube does have this facility to upload directly from a webcam. If you want a "quick'n dirty" recording, it might be convenient occasionally - and therefore worth a try. |
Subject: RE: Tech: youtube upload problems From: Gibb Sahib Date: 10 Aug 09 - 12:59 PM Hi, What do you mean by webcam? I assume you mean you tried to directly upload a video without editing it? My 2 cents : you'd be more secure making the movie in a movie editor. Assuming you've got one :) ...it only takes a minute and the results look much better. I've done that for hundreds of vids, using my "webcam" to record them, and luckily with no youtube probs so far. That way, when you create the file you're going to upload, you can select the settings and file format to Youtube's preferred ones. MP4 format works well. Plus -- you actually edit the video, so we don't have to see the extraneous actions of adjusting the camera and all that! good luck Gibb |
Subject: RE: Tech: youtube upload problems From: Will Fly Date: 10 Aug 09 - 12:17 PM Well, I managed to get YouTube to control my webcam (iSight utility on a Mac Book Pro) and did a 60 second video making faces at the screen. It uploaded instantly, but then appeared to be taking forever on the processing - in the end I had to delete it. and it was a tiny, tiny file as well. The format was .flv - Flash video - which is what YT uses. So - no luck for me either. I might have another crack later in the week, as I'm curious to see what happens if I persist with the processing. |
Subject: RE: Tech: youtube upload problems From: meself Date: 10 Aug 09 - 09:28 AM That's very kind of you. I look forward to your report! (Of course, if more pressing matters get in the way, don't worry about it.) |
Subject: RE: Tech: youtube upload problems From: Will Fly Date: 10 Aug 09 - 03:50 AM Hmmm... did one yesterday, which went up fine. But I never do it from a webcam. I always create a .mov file (using iMovie) and drop that in. Most of my .mov files are around 40Mb in length and last about 3 minutes or so - never had a problem yet. I shall test out the webcam way and see what happens... |
Subject: Tech: youtube upload problems From: meself Date: 10 Aug 09 - 02:00 AM I just tried uploading a four-minute webcam recording to youtube. Everything seemed to work out fine - but when I downloaded the recording to see the result, this is what I got: there was only 47 seconds of recording - the first 47 seconds of the audio at normal speed, but the entire four minutes of video squeezed into 47 seconds. Talk about a guy going nuts on guitar ... The file was .AVI, which is one of the formats that youtube is supposed to recognize. This is the first time I've tried uploading onto youtube. Suggestions? |
