It is friendly and seemed to serve enough good ale for me to forget what ale it is that it serves......... Good sessions and singarounds in here last year. See you there then. Paul |

Subject: RE: Osmotherley Gathering 11-13th Sept From: Soldier boy Date: 19 Aug 09 - 06:51 PM P.S: Sorry, this is not relevant to 'the gathering' but can I ask : When I was at High School I once did 'The Lyke Wake Walk' with a bunch of other school kids and teachers and I kind of remember the walk starting from Osmotherley and then went over the north york moors to the east coast; is that correct? And where did it finish? And do people still do this long boring walk? I remember getting a small coffin-shaped badge which was awarded to everyone who completed the walk - something about it being an ancient trail that monks followed to carry their dead in coffins and bury them on the coast or at sea, or something. Is this also correct? |
Subject: RE: Osmotherley Gathering 11-13th Sept From: GUEST,fantum Date: 20 Aug 09 - 07:53 AM The lyke wake walk finished at the cafe at Ravenscar on the coast The walk I believe is now defunct Must see if I can talk the wife into visiting the festival Fantum |
Subject: RE: Osmotherley Gathering 11-13th Sept From: Soldier boy Date: 23 Aug 09 - 06:45 PM Thanks for that fantum. My addled brain could'nt think of Ravenscar and kept coming up with Redcar; miles off! Anyway, I'm glad if the Lyke Wake Walk is now defunct. That was one long boring walk. May it R.I.P! |
