Have a look at www.areyoudancing.com

There's usually some barn dances on there.

Assuming you are looking for a dancing ceilidh;

Reunion Ceilidh Band with caller Chris Bland
at Shap Village Hall, Friday 28th August 7.00pm to 11.00pm
Bring shared supper & own drink £5 on the door.

Most of the ceilidh series shut down over the summer because most of the audience (and organisers for that matter) are away at festivals. In the North West, besides Phoenix, there's the Poynton ceilidhs near Stockport (possibly too far south for you), but they don't start up again until October. Ryburn 3 Step in West Yorkshire may be in range, but again don't start until September.

Hello Ploppo,

A glance at http://www.webfeet.org/events.html is always the best place to start looking for ceilidhs. But it doesn't look like there is much this month. You know about http://www.lesession.co.uk/phoenix/index.htm, I expect? But Horwich doesn't get going again until the autumn.

Cheers,
Jane
