Excuse me for my bad English. I wanna create a simple program which will create a mid files. And I want to find a site where format of these files (mid-files)(SMF) clearly described.

For example key A with duration 1/4 : AA 0F 4A, file header 75 56 0D ...

and so on..

Best rergards Ruslan

Hi, Ruslan - that's quite a bit beyond my own technical ability, but we have some other people who might come up with an answer. Click here and take a look around at an excellent MIDI information site. I think it may have what you're looking for.

There is no information I want to find in this site. Only ABC, for example:

There are three types of Standard MIDI Files, that include: Type 0 - which combines all the tracks or staves in to a single track. Type 1 - saves the files as separate tracks or staves for a complete score with the tempo and time signature information only included in the first track. Type 2 - saves the file as separate tracks or staves and also includes the tempo and time signatures for each track.

But I want more...

According to the Midi Manufacturers (http://www.midi.org/) there are books you can purchase with the specifications and some are posted on the net as well. However, a quick look didn't show links to the e-text.

Midi Web (http://www.midiweb.com/index2.html) is probably a better place to start - there's a tech corner and some programming stuff.

Those links should lead you in the direction of what you're looking for.

There is a newish book called'The Midi Files' from Prentise Hall (I think) circa 1997, which I lusted after for a while. I then found out as little as I needed to know from many sites on the Web. There are scads of them, but sorry I can't give a particular reference.

Regards John
