Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Folkiedave Date: 20 Oct 09 - 02:32 PM And it has been decided that there will be another similar event next year! Sounds good to me! |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Folkiedave Date: 19 Oct 09 - 01:39 PM Jealous because we have two award winning pubs within a few inches of each other. Dee Dah indeed. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Les from Hull Date: 19 Oct 09 - 12:41 PM It was. It was real nice to have an afternoon out with all our old dee dah mates. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Brian Peters Date: 19 Oct 09 - 08:53 AM My apologies for absence - I'd forgotten I would be away all weekend. Sounds like a great do. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: GUEST,Derek Schofield Date: 18 Oct 09 - 05:38 PM Glad it went well .. I was hospital visiting in Liverpool. Derek Schofield |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Noreen Date: 18 Oct 09 - 04:52 PM Sorry I couldn't be there, but was thinking of you all, and of Malcolm, today. I decided that a 200 miles round trip was too far for an afternoon- I don't have the energy any more to do so after working all week and yesterday, unfortunately. Will this be an annual event?? |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Folkiedave Date: 18 Oct 09 - 04:38 PM And Dave Broughton all the way from near Dunster in Scotland! But credit where it was due. I just helped on the day. It was Ron and Jenny. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Steve Gardham Date: 18 Oct 09 - 03:13 PM Brilliant do. Many Thanks to Ron and Jenny and Dave for organising this great event. Malcolm would have been proud. Oh, and thanks to Robin for leading the band. Ron ses we got 155 musicians. Another great event to Sheffield. Wish Hull had something like this! Well done Martin and Shan for coming up all the way from Cheltenham. |

Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Folkiedave Date: 07 Oct 09 - 12:15 PM Four wheels on my wagon, and I'm just rolling along...... If anyone has any photographs would you please bring them along. Dave |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: GUEST,Pips Date: 06 Oct 09 - 07:35 PM Les - Hull to that there Sheffield - we'll get some lot of 4 wheels over there from 'ere, not to worry :) |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Surreysinger Date: 06 Oct 09 - 02:46 PM Not hard Jack.... I had intended going, but then I discovered how much it would cost me. The heart is willing, but the pocket is weak. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Les from Hull Date: 06 Oct 09 - 11:31 AM There's engineering work on the line between Edinburgh and Newcastle that weekend. Even the train is a bus! |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Jack Campin Date: 06 Oct 09 - 07:51 AM I don't see how I can get to this - train from Edinburgh is five hours one way and nine hours the other, bus is nine hours both ways. 18 hours on the road with a titanium spring in my heart, forget it. Bugger. Is Sheffield that hard to get to from the south? |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Jack Campin Date: 29 Sep 09 - 10:05 AM I've uploaded ABC transcriptions of the four tunes for the event, made from the PDFs on Robin's site: http://www.campin.me.uk/Music/MalcolmDouglas.abc Now it's a matter of getting there myself - the east coast rail line will be out of commission around Newcastle that weekend. Anybody driving from Berwick or Carlisle? |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: SylviaN Date: 23 Sep 09 - 10:36 AM Keith and I will do our very best to attend. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Folkiedave Date: 23 Sep 09 - 10:10 AM Thanks for that Jim - sounds like a good idea to me. Can I tell you that the organisers have arranged for the event to be recorded and filmed and that a CD and a DVD will be available at cost plus a small donation as soon as possible after the event. Money will be going to the charities which are already being supported. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: GUEST,MC Fat (at work) Date: 22 Sep 09 - 06:03 AM There will be a session for those who want to take part at the Kelham Island Tavern after this event (from 4pm) any monies collected go to the chosen charities. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Brian Peters Date: 22 Sep 09 - 05:48 AM I hope to join you all. Brian |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Jack Campin Date: 21 Sep 09 - 08:07 PM It's going to be difficult for people in Scotland to get there - there's repair work scheduled on the railway that weekend. Bus is pretty slow. Anybody driving from/through the Central Belt with space in their car? |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Tattie Bogle Date: 21 Sep 09 - 08:01 PM Don't know how I missed the earlier news of Malcolm's sad passing, but like many other Mudcatters, I have benefited from his encyclopaedic knowledge of folk music. I would love to come down for the event, but probalay will not be able to, owing to visitors coming that weekend. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Noreen Date: 11 Sep 09 - 06:41 AM I've been learning the tunes... this should be fun! |

Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Folkiedave Date: 07 Sep 09 - 01:22 PM Easiest way on the feet is the tram from the station to Shalesmoor stop. It's a five/ten minute walk from there. Trams are every twenty minutes from the station. Around lunchtime on a Sunday they are at 53, 13, 33 minutes past the hour. Cost is £1.40. You can use an over-60 pass if you have one. A Dayrider (£3.00) does not save unless you need another journey on the day. You need a maximum of five minutes to the tram from any aarival platform. http://www.supertram.net/journeyplanner.html |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Wyrd Sister Date: 07 Sep 09 - 11:39 AM About 20 mins, according to multimap Station is on Sheaf Street, museum is S3 8RY (link not working) Sadly, buses only help for a short way some options I know the times are out but it will give you some idea. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: GUEST,Ed Date: 07 Sep 09 - 11:37 AM Is the venue walking distance from the Station? It's just over a mile, so if you can walk that far: yes, if you can't: no. Ed |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Les in Chorlton Date: 07 Sep 09 - 08:16 AM Is the venue walking distance from the Station? L in C |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Wyrd Sister Date: 20 Aug 09 - 12:42 PM The biggest ceilidh band in the world could take place across the whole world! The Guinness Book of Records might have a problem ignoring that. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Folkiedave Date: 20 Aug 09 - 11:54 AM I am looking into making this a live event for a certain radio show on community radio in Sheffield. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: open mike Date: 20 Aug 09 - 11:52 AM what a great idea to share music to a few tunes... that way you know that people who come will have some that everyone knows and can play. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: open mike Date: 20 Aug 09 - 11:50 AM try paltalk...you can use my room mudcat acoustic jam... or create your own... |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Desert Dancer Date: 20 Aug 09 - 11:35 AM As Malcolm was wont to say: "More power to your elbow(s)!" And if the technoPHILEs can turn this into a global event, that would be great. ~ Becky in Tucson (that's Arizona, U.S.A.) |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: nutty Date: 20 Aug 09 - 10:27 AM I'm sure there are a lot of Mudcatters who would like to share in this event. Has anyone contacted Max or any of our technophobes to see if live streaming is possible via Mudcat/Facebook/YouTube. There must be something that can be done. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Les in Chorlton Date: 20 Aug 09 - 09:16 AM Community radio / TV live coverage Dave? |

Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Wyrd Sister Date: 20 Aug 09 - 09:04 AM Surely there's a way of linking in some kind of web cam? At the very least, pics will be taken and pasted. |

Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: RTim Date: 19 Aug 09 - 07:28 PM It wish I could be there to pay respects to a man I never met, but whom I revere so much for all his knowledge and generosity. Tim Radford |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Phil Edwards Date: 19 Aug 09 - 06:45 PM As long as I can get a passout for the day (it's a Sunday), I'll be there (and on Les's coach if there is one). There is altogether too much of this terminal flu going around, and Malcolm's early check-out touched me about as deeply as you can be touched by losing someone you've never met, spoken to or exchanged emails with - which is to say, pretty damn deeply. Malcolm was a dude of the first water; attention should be paid to such a man, and music made. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: GUEST,Noreen Date: 19 Aug 09 - 06:25 PM Sounds good- not been back to sheffield for yonks. . . . |

Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Howard Jones Date: 19 Aug 09 - 03:23 PM It sounds wonderful. I never (so far as I am aware) met Malcolm but his knowledge and scholarship were legendary. As Les said, an amazing man and a fitting celebration. Supporting worthwhile causes, too. I hope I can make it. |
Subject: RE: Malcolm Douglas event - 18 October, Sheffield From: Les in Chorlton Date: 19 Aug 09 - 02:22 PM I think with a little planning it could turn into something a bit big and an appropriate celebration of an amazing man. I will be checking out coaches shortly L in C |
