Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: ClaireBear Date: 21 Aug 09 - 01:52 AM What a story! While I'm not in San Francisco, I'm within a couple of hours' drive near Santa Cruz ... so if a more local Catter (like Chanteyranger or Dave Swan) should arrange a pub crawl or a musical evening, I'll be there with metaphoric bells on. Cheers, Claire |
Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: Fidjit Date: 21 Aug 09 - 02:18 AM Cheers Claire I'm over the moon of course Chas |
Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: GUEST,Jim P Date: 21 Aug 09 - 04:42 AM I'm in the Bay Area, as are a bunch of other 'Catters. If you'd like to attend some folkish activities, there's several monthly get-togethers that take place. Chanteyranger, of course, leads the monthly sea chantey sing at the Hyde St. Pier on the first Saturday of each month, and the Harmony sing is held the first Wednesday in Berkeley. The San Francisco Folk Music club also has a monthly do, but I don't remember right now when it is. Of course, after reading your family reunion story, you'd be entirely correct to want to spend every possible minute with your daughter, and who could blame you? On the other hand, it'd be delightful to meet you and welcome you here in person. Jim |
Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: Fidjit Date: 21 Aug 09 - 05:02 AM Thanks Jim P Give my regards to the others I found this of course but I would welcome to chat with some of you there too. I'll get in touch when I know more in the New Year. Chas |

Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: GUEST,Jim P Date: 04 Oct 09 - 07:00 PM Fidjit: so was that you at the shanty sing with the mudcat nametag? I didn't get a chance to introduce myself, as you came in during the first session (I was singing 'Ben Backstay'), and left during the second. I was out standing a gate watch during the break. Anyway, I hope you had a good time, and we'll talk if you can make it to the Harmony sing. |
Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: Fidjit Date: 04 Oct 09 - 09:09 PM OK Jim P. We had a good time. Think I sang a song when you were out at the gate. Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: Fidjit Date: 07 Oct 09 - 01:00 PM Short update. Having a great time visiting my Daughter and in San Francisco Met up with Richard Goldberg yesterday. Great day. Met at the "Cafe Bazaar"( http://www.bazaarcafe.com ) on California. Nice cafe. Lots of singer/songwriters play there. I gave them a blast of, "Banbury Bill" on my one row Melodeon. Take time to look at the garden. Richard and I spent some time at his place. Swapping stories and tunes. He's into Irish and I'm into English, so nothing together, but still good. Rich took me on a tour to look at SFC from the highest point. Wow! What a view! Then down the "Flower Power" part and the Gay bit. All in all a good time. Met with Dave Swan on the Monday. Dave is part of "Oak, Ash and Thorn" http://www.oakashthorn.com/ He and his lady took me to look at some very large Red Wood Trees. Was at a free Chantey sing on a Clipper Ship in the harbour last Saturday too. That was good. Off to some accappella singing tonight and a festival on Saturday. Oh Yes! and Friday it's the Presidents Cup golf at Harding Park Golf Course, so I'll be there too with my son-in-law! |

Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: ClaireBear Date: 08 Oct 09 - 10:44 PM I'd like to come to the festival on Saturday, and it's feasible as I will be up that way to attend a party in Berkeley in the late afternoon and evening. How early will you and Dave be at the festival? Can I arrange to meet you? Claire |
Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: Fidjit Date: 09 Oct 09 - 12:40 AM Probably in the afternoon. (Son in law has to get his hair cut) Don't know about Dave. Harmony's Way are singing at 1pm to 2pm. Look at the schedule on the site above. I want to do something at the open mike, if I can. Chas |
Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: sharyn Date: 09 Oct 09 - 01:49 AM Hey Chas, It was nice to hear you sing and play the melodeon at In Harmony's Way last night. Loved that song about the tiger! (I was the one who sang "Knife in the Window"). Enjoy the rest of your visit. Sharyn |
Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: ClaireBear Date: 09 Oct 09 - 08:53 PM The party I'm attending, which turns out to be in Richmond, starts at 5pm...so I'll be at the festival as early as possible. Look for a short redhead wearing an African coat and black clothing underneath, with a nine-year-old son in tow. I'll come to the open mike if I get there on time; otherwise will be there for In Harmony's Way. I think I may even have a Mudcat badge around here somewhere... (Also will likely have a little tiny dulcimer in a black canvas case slung over one shoulder.) |
Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: Fidjit Date: 10 Oct 09 - 12:52 AM I made up my own Mudcat badge as I lost my real one at Cheltenham Festival two years ago. See you there. Chas |

Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: Fidjit Date: 11 Oct 09 - 12:18 AM Had a nice day at El Cerrito Free Folk Festival. Didn't get to see all of you. Just a couple or two. Several from Harmony Way. Then got taken over the Golden Gate Bridge (In the fog) That was cool. Day with the family tomorrow (Sunday) Dinner and wine. Then back to Sweden on Monday. My trip here has been really good- Catch you all later. Chas |

Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: Fidjit Date: 15 Oct 09 - 07:04 AM Back home in Sweden (bit jet lagged) also blown away by the experience of all the music in the Bay area of San Francisco. Mostly, seemingly, in the North East side although SFO gives a day by day events calender. This Cafe Bazaar was at 5927 California Street. A 30 minute bus ride West along Geary Street from Union Sq. Local cafe of Richard Goldberg owner of 4 anglo concertinas. What a great crowd they are at, Harmony's Way out at Oakland at a Marxist library ! Great accapella singing. Taught them a new fun song about tigers. They liked that. Met up with Dave Swan of Oak, Ash and Thorn Got to see some very wide and tall trees with him and his lady. And Chanteyranger (Peter Kasin) who leads the Shanty singing on a Clipper Ship down on Fisherman's Warf once a month. Met up with a few of them all again at the Free Festival in El Cerrito. Which is just North of Berkley and Oakland. Very impressed with the quality of all the music I heard and shared. Those I missed this time around - Open Mike - lost somewhere at El Cerrico and - ClaireBear - too, same place. Sorry about that. Next time for sure. Spent loads of time with my long lost Daughter and her husband. Played golf with my Grandson and watched a day of the Presidents Cup. All the stars including Tiger Woods. Good stuff. Got to see the "Giants" win a baseball game live! Daughter almost got hit by a flyball! I will definitely be back there. Keep you posted as to when. Thanks to all in the Bay Area. Chas |
Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: ClaireBear Date: 15 Oct 09 - 12:12 PM Sorry I missed you. I was the lady who sang the tongue-twisting song "Mary Mack" at the In Harmony's way workshop, in case you were there. Next time, for sure! C |
Subject: RE: Any catters in San Francisco? From: Fidjit Date: 15 Oct 09 - 12:23 PM No. Sorry ClaireBear. I got there after you'd all finished. Did catch up with Jugtown Pirates though. Thought they were good. Sang along in another workshop of Pub Songs. Managed to Play my one row Melodeon outside in the yard. My concertina too. Chas |
