For advice either Malc or Derek Droscher would be a good starting point. One stumbling block can be public liability insurance if you have guests and they belong to equity or MU they are covered and some may have hse qualifications. for singarounds the venue may be covered by PEL.

Hi Kenny / Burglar.

Blast from the past! How are you, and is that dead skunk still roadkill????

I was in The Mallard Friday night. Mind you, having moved back to Worksop about 6 years ago, I move out again next month to sunny North Lincolnshire.

Would be great to see something organised though, and I would try my best to turn up.

My interest these days is that Mitch pushes pieces of paper through my letterbox when out walking his dog. Then I forget to turn up to whatever he is reminding me of. Pathetic on my part I know, but hey ho, work drags me all over the ruddy place.

Why not keep it FREE AS A BUCKET FESTIVAL like Mansfield do ?
They do well from theirs and always have the money for the following year
A good raffle with prizes donated by local music shops and businesses makes a few bob too
We would support

I think you should just pick a week and go ahead whatever - unless you do it in the midddle of January there just aren't enough weeks for the number of Festivals.

I'd like to add my recommmendation for "What's the Point" - they are a very versatile band and would be an asset to any festival.

I've just found out that the York Folk Weekend will likely be on 5th/6th June next year, to avoid late spring Bank Hol - so it would be good to avoid clashing with that.

What a great idea Paul. A gazebo/marquee could be provided very easily.

Though Worksop itself is rather less than prepossessing- at least the centre of town from the canal- the site (if I've got the right rugby club, on Stubbins Lane) would appear to offer a good balance between isolation and accessibility- with the prospect of some fine walks along the canal up to Shireoaks and Turnerwood. A rugby pitch should be big enough to allow a second tent (if anyone's got a large gazebo/ little marquee) for minority tastes or special interests.

Sounds GREAT Rhiannon - well done, as soon as you know dates let us know and hopefully we'd be able to come,if not help out! Russ is from Sheffield and always had lots of local folkie contacts I'll ask him further opinions.

We could, of course supply some of the wonderous Red Fox Brewery beer! Because Russ comes up "home" fairly often, it wouldn't be difficult to arrange beer delivery. He sometimes does swaps with Kelham Island brewery in Sheffield - maybe your venue would be prepared to have some guest cask ales.....

On the important subject of beer, my experience of playing gigs in rugby clubs is that they often don't stock cask beer outside the playing season, because they can't sell enough of it and it's hard to keep. If you want real ale, make sure you discuss it with them beforehand.

MCFat seems to be being unnecessarily Yorkshirist. Workshop is obviously near Sheffield, and that is the way anyone would describe it to someone from away. Let's face it, Worksop is in Nottinghamshire, and it's near Sheffield. Hathersage is in Derbyshire, and it's near Sheffield. There, I've written the dreadful facts out. It hasn't given me apoplexy.
Good luck with the festival!

Not sure what ale will be on but I hope they will get a guest beer or two in. I know the bar is cheap though.

As to the music content ... well I hope and expect that it will be a good mix. After all, as it is singaround based weekend, then the content will be down to whoever is singing. So I'll put you down for trad stuff? (grin)

As to the date - sadly it is a smallish window of April to August (between rugby seasons).

Subject: POSSIBLE Folk Festival 2010

I'm THINKING of organising a mini fest in Worksop next Spring or summer. I stress it's only at the thinking stage at the moment.

My thoughts are for taking over the local rugby club where we could have indoor camping and the more regular kind of camping. From, say, Friday night to Sunday night. Food would be available from the club and the bar would be at club prices (always a good idea!). I might even manage to organise a hog roast on the Saturday night.

As to music, I was thinking of mainly singarounds/music sessions with possible 'spots' for the braver members.

This will be a fund raising event and I was thinking of a possible entrance of £10 for the weekend.

I would welcome any input Catters have to offer. at the moment it sounds like a simple idea - maybe too simple - so I might be deluding myself! lol

Blessings
Rhiannon
