Great idea ... why don't you start one for English Folk Music, Crow Sister?

Remember, my site is for musicians from all over the World, who play and are interested in Scottish Music. Even just taking all the musicians in England, Ireland, America & Cape Breton, Wales & Brittany, who play Scottish Music, as well as folk in Scotland too, of course, I reckon that'll give us plenty of scope for creative collaboration!

Cheers
Dick

I can see the value of a private forum. The problems with this one are a start point. If I knew of an equivalent private forum for people interested in English music and song - or even just "folk", I'd join and make far greater efforts to network for purposes of creative collaboration.

Sorry Jack, I can see how the Private set up is never going to suit everyone, I know for example that Simon isn't exactly a big fan of it either.

However, that came about due to various members on other similar sites, requesting some form of privacy, in order that they might post photos of their rather expensive musical instruments, for the benefit of genuine like-minded enthusiasts.

The members, so far, seem to be far more interested in networking with like-minded enthusiasts, than displaying their wares to every Tom, Dick & Harry, (no offence to Tom & Harry) who might stumble upon the site.

The fact is, there is a system built into the site, which means that members can choose to display their photos to everyone, or just their friends or just themselves. However, they prefer to have a belt & braces set up.

From my own point of view, I have in the past been forced to shut down two similar forums!
This was because I foolishly left those completely open, with the result that SPAM Heads moved in & completely destroyed them both!

So, if you know the sort of work that goes into setting up a site & maintaining it, you will perhaps appreciate why I'm simply just not prepared to take that chance again.

If that means a slightly quieter website, then so be it.

Cheers
Dick

I can see why you might sometimes want to keep a picture, sound file or video private, but all the time?

I'm not at all interested in posting anything to a private forum - I belong to Dick Gaughan's forum, which works that way, and it came to seem a bit pointless writing anything for such a small circle so I haven't looked at it for quite a while.

On this new site, each member has their own page where they can:
1 ~ POST PHOTOS of their Scottish Music experiences and instruments.
2 ~ POST MP3s of their own Scottish Music.
3 ~ POST VIDEOS of themselves playing Scottish Music.
4 ~ NETWORK with other musicians who play Scottish Music.

N.B. Non members only have access to the Main Page, which means all members music, photos etc is private, so only other members can view or listen to it.

I imagine this new site might prove to be most useful & popular, among musicians who are far from the auld sod, or are rather isolated from other Scottish Musicians.

Scottish Traditional Musicians

Cheers
Dick
